    license problem?

    hello.

i have heard that saba is not licensed in all 50 states. what kinda problems may that cause in the future after you graduate?

is it very important? You have chosen to go to this school, i am sure that you have a good understanding on this subject.

i like to apply to auc or saba, because they are so cheap. same eduction, why pay more.

Actually, AUC's not all that cheap. Same price as Ross. Saba's the bargain. Weigh the pros and cons and good luck to you...

    Re: license problem?

At the current time from what I know, graduates from Saba cannot be licensed in California, New Mexico, and Kansas. The site inspection for California from what I understand will happen later this year. New Mexico bases it's approval on California's, so when Saba gets California, they will most likely get New Mexico. Kansas is a different story: They have a fifteen year rule from date of charter, so Saba will probably not be approved until 2007. As far as I know, most other states are not a problem, though some like Texas and Pennsylvania are harder than others, and 8) very picky about rotations being all greenbook.

    Re: license problem?

hello, thanks for replying! can anyone tell me some details about this whole license problem?

I don't see it as a big deal if I can get a licese that practice in all 50 states. i don't think that i will spend the rest of my life practicing in all 50 states.

on the other hand, it seems that it might be the best to go to a school that is allowed in all 50 states.

Also someone told me that saba does not send its graduates to all ACGME proved hospitals, etc. can someone tell me more?

    thanks!

Licensing Info from the Horse's Mouth

Your first best step is to get in touch with the state licensing board of the state(s) in which you wish to practice. Contact information can be found at www.fsmb.org . Call them up and ask very specific questions about licensure in their jurisdiction for graduates of the school(s) you are considering. Ask them to send the answers to you in writing (if they will). Make sure you are satisified with the situation (and the school) before you commit your money to the process.

As far as Saba clinicals at ACGME hospitals -- I have seen hospitals listed as clinical affiliates on the official Saba website which I do not find in the Greenbook (check FREIDA on the ACGME website). Still, I have been told that students can do all their rotations at ACGME approved programs if they so desire. I'm just not sure if that is necessary for licensure in all states.

Keep looking and share what you find with us! 8)

    Best of Luck!

    Re: license problem?

The licensing problem is a man's best friend!! Seriously, you have to do your homework before you fork out the cash to these schools. I know that Saba has not been approved by California. The approval process can take up to 7 years after the site visit!!! In fact I checked with the medical board of California. Thing about Cali is that they send a committe of people down to the school to inspect everything about the school. This includes everything from past USMLE step 1 scores to the schools cirriculum and classes. It costs the school tons of money to fly these people down there, pay for their hotel (food), etc. So, most schools wait until they can afford it.

For example Texas has somewhat of a different policy. They accept the students on a case per case basis. In fact they have list of all the schools that are currently approved by the state on their website.

So, I would seriously do my homework before stepping into this. Then again, not all states are as stringent as Cali.

    Re: license problem?

Also you can call Florida State Board and ask. They told me that SABA is not accredited.

    Saba Approval

I'm not sure what you mean by "accreditation". Saba is not approved by the LCME. Nor are any of the other schools in Caribbean (except for 3 of the 4 schools in Puerto Rico). Saba is approved in Florida for students to do clinical clerkships and for its graduates to do residencies there. Saba grads are also licensed in Florida, so I'm not sure what sort of problem you might have in mind regarding Saba's Florida status.

    Best of Luck!
