necessity of laptops??

Hey guys,

just wanted to get a feel for how necessary it is to bring a laptop to school. In the pictures and I know that all my friends in law and med school use laptops in class for notes. I just wanted to see what you guys who are there in SABA right now have to say about it??

LAPTOP

Laptop is definately a good thing to have here since most lectures are on powerpoint and you'll want to study at home ect. Then again, after reading some of your older posts, seems like your not planning on studying at home much right? 8)
You could use the computers in the library, but that gets old quick. It's nice to have a laptop.

Djinbh is right, most class lectures are now taught by powerpoint and so you'll definitely want some way of getting those & studying them in your own time. Options I see to do this are to just have a USB flash memory drive, take the lectures to the computer lab & look at them there, take that flash drive to the library & pay to print all the lectures out so that you can study them wherever (could be fairly pricy over the course of 5 semesters), or of course, have your own computer/laptop to look at them at your leisure. I definitely think a laptop is the way to go, if you can swing it, I've posted some very long detailed recommendations on what to look for in one if you're going to get one, search for that if you're interested, but Sidd's right, you don't need anything fancy if you're just going to be using it for school powerpoints.

Bring a Laptop

I brought one down not knowing just how much I would really use it. You will hear stories of people who didn't bring one (very few) and did very well anyway (the guy who graduated from Basic Sciences top of our class took all his notes by hand).

Suffice it to say (and I've said this before, many times):

Do yourself a favor. Bring a laptop.

If you have to rob a liquor store (just kidding)- Bring a laptop.

If you have to sell a kidney (just kidding)- Bring a laptop.

If you have to sell blood (not kidding) - Bring a laptop.

If you have to go into excessive consumer debt - Bring a laptop.

If you have to pretend to like your in-laws (BTW I love mine) - Bring a laptop.

If you have to sell your car, your house, (fill in the blank) - Bring a laptop.

While you're at it, Bring an inexpensive printer too.

Best of Luck and bring a laptop!

Do the majority of students actually bring the laptop into class to take notes, or do they leave the laptop at home and just download with a USB memory drive and take notes on paper?

notes

I started out first semester shlepping my computer to school each day. It's completely unnecessary. With our anatomy and embryo profs, put your pen down and enjoy the ride, the notes are written for you by profs after class. Honestly the best teachers I have ever had.Extra special human beings.USB memory drive a must.Bring home and print out notes if you like.

No Weed

No Sidd,

Do not sell weed.
Do not bring weed.
Do not smoke weed.

Do bring a laptop.

In my class most people brought their laptops to class everyday and took notes directly on the powerpoints provided by the prof. Making notes directly on the PP's during lecture was very helpful for later study.

Best of Luck!
