    Teaching at Saba?

Ive talked to a few people in the chat room and they have told me that Saba instructors aren't very good. He said that some have thick accents that students have difficulty understanding? Is this true? Am i going to be on my own for the boards (like they say), or will the teaching at Saba help prepare me for the boards?

    thanx for any responses!

    SABA

    Ron --

Im sure a current SABA student will be able to answer your question if they get the chance. I will be attending SABA starting in Sept. 2003. I will be graduating from a Big Ten US school with my ** in Biology this August. I have had numerous profs who have had thick accents and I can say I still recieved a solid education. At any school you will find both good and bad profs. I have spoken with SABA graduates who have attained residency, licensing and are currently in private practice. They have all spoken very highly of the school and are doing well now. Regardless of an accent or if a prof is not top notch it will be up to us to study the notes, read the texts and apply that knowledge to STEP 1. I really feel that the majority of learning in med school comes outside of lecture or labs during times of self study and absorbing lecture notes. Im sure we will find bad profs at all of the carib schools but if you choose a school that has been established (SGU, ROSS, AUC, SABA) and focus on the material you should be fine. I have done more research on Foreign Medical Schools then I care to admit and after having met and spoke with graduates of the carib schools I listed above anything is possible if we just put the work in.
Good luck with your medical school choice and know that there are plenty of roads that will get you to your ultimate goal.

    Take it easy --

    Kevin

    u r correct!

Thanx Kevin. I agree, a student's success in med school is greatly dependent on him/herself and his/her study habits. One should always keep this in mind and not listen to unsubstantiatied rumours. Thank you for reminding me of this. I will also be heading to Saba this Sept 2003.
    See you then!
