Luggage Dilemma

So, I'm having a late-onset problem with my luggage. After revisiting Winair's web page, I realize that I'll have two checked bags (both weighing more than 40lbs ea.) and my laptop as a carry-on. I have an overnight layover in St. Maarten, so I was wondering if anyone who's travelled Winair could tell me if sending one bag on the earliest flight with Winair would be a good idea and then I could just pick it up at Saba's airport when I arrive.

I would take the Edge, but I've already changed my arrival time with the school 3 times. And I'd hate spending money on a Winair flight and not getting a refund. I'd also hate spending more money on a ferry ride that would cause me to yack.

I feel retarded for having such a problem so late in the game.

I don't really see that you would need to do that. I've brought 2 cargo bags and a carry on before. And this time I'm bringing my luggage and another 8X12 box with me. If Winair can't carry it all they will just send it to the island when space is available(probably the next day).

muchas gracias

Thanks Rob. When are you coming back to the island? So Winair doesn't strictly follow the 40lbs rule they have posted?

I'm coming back Saturday. And as far as the 40 lbs. rule is concerned I'm not sure although I've never witnessed them weigh anyone's luggage. This is just from my experience.

Excess Baggage

Bamaguy must've gotten lucky or doesn't carry very heavy bags, b/c usually Winair charges you for the weight of your bags above 40lbs when you're in St. maarten. The little thing you set your bags on when you give them to the attendant is a scale, and I've definitely had to pay for the excess weight on several occasions. With a couple of 70lb bags (the likely limit for your flights to St. Maarten) expect it to run you $40-60. But I haven't ever seen them turn one of your bags away for being over 40, they just get a little more money out of you for it. Oh, and travel with some essentials, DO NOT expect to get your bags the day you get to Saba, or even the next day at that, especially if you're coming to the island around the same time as lots of other students with big 70lb bags, they just can't fit many on those little planes. It's pretty much a coin toss chance you'll get your bags the same day, so plan accordingly. They get them all to Saba eventually, but often it takes 1-3 days. So I suggest in your carryon have a change of clothes, couple changes of underwear, & some toiletries. That's all a little advice from my experience of 7 trips to Saba. Figure out how that dates me......

okay

So I'll repack. Can I bring another bag as a carry on, or just my laptop?

Yeah, I might have gotten lucky. I think there was a girl at our dorm who didn't get her clothes for a few days after we all got there. Most people got their stuff the next day or at latest the day after. I think it was a space issue

Oy

Okay, first of all, listen to Patrik. He's got it nailed.

Second, Classic you can carry your laptop and another bag, and even a purse if you feel like keeping up with that many bags - I'd advise against the purse though - too much of a hassle. (For those on the island, you'll understand why I had to think about the spelling for "hassle." Oy vey!)

Rob, I see you've finally embrassed the title of Dr. Love. Good for you! Rui will be proud!

See you all in a week. *sigh* This break is too short (shut up Patrik).
