XM or Sirius?

Though I'm not an accepted student (at least not yet), I was curious about this and thought it might be of interest to other students, especiallly those who would be going soon.

Is the island within range of XM or Sirius radio? Are there radio stations that could be received there? I know with XM or Sirius, it would be great, since there is virtually an endless amount of commercial-less radio, and in my opinion, there's nothing like listening to classical music while studying.

My personal favorite is Tshaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major

Tchaikovsky?

Well, considering XM and Serius are satellite based, and satellites are in space and they beam down at the earth... I think its a logical assumption that they work here. Has anyone tried it or thought of it? I dunno! However, the only real problem that MAY exist is that the satellite "footprint" for XM or SERIUS MAY NOT be big enough outside the US. I can say that we get Dishnetwork Satellite TV on the island, so if we can get that, then I am almost sure that since SERIUS is now advertising with Dish then they must share the satellites, thus I would assume that the footprint IS BIG ENOUGH! I have talked to some NASA engineers about satellites before and they assure me that there is NO WAY to restrict the footprint of a satellite. Thus the bigger the dish/cone on the satellite in space is, the larger the footprint that can't be restricted. HAHA!!!

As for Tchaikovsky... well.... its classical music... lol... and if you are gonna listen to classical... then I suggest Vivaldi, preferably HORN CONCERTO in F Major - go french horns (long story there).... But in reality you should try something more like bands of this century like "From Autumn to Ashes", or "Alexisonfire"

Val
P.S. I like your thinking!!!

OH

BTW, I forgot something else... if you like radio so much, then you can find alot of radio stations now online - so if you get internet at your home/dorm you can listen to the radio station from back home. Since you are from upstate NY (maybe Buffalo?) then you can listen to 102.1 the EDGE from TORONTO on EDGES webpage which you can find through GOOGLE! As for Buffalo's Kiss 98.5, I am not sure its online, but if anyone knows, PM me, cause that station played good stuff 20 months ago when I left!!! LOL

hehe

Hehe....102.1...Isn't that from Toronto? I do listen to WNED 94.5 quite a bit, but a lot of WXXI 91.5. (I am very close to Rochester.)

With the internet option, wouldn't it be expensive for the DSL and such? I heard that the DSL connection is really expensive, and in order to have the DSL, one must have the landline, which means you have to have the phone, so it just seemed like lots of costs added up...

Doesn't work on SXM... do a search on the AUC forum for more details.

Which one

You quoted the internet radio quote as not working, but INTERNET radio works everywhere in the world PERIOD... So did you mean that Serius and XMS don't work on SXM?

sirius

I don't remember where I read this, but I did read that since Sirius satellites move around, so that the Caribbean is covered, but I'm not sure about Saba specifically.

Nothing was mentioned about XM, though...

dish

So do you recommend I bring my dish network receiver and dish down to saba, Val? Do you know someone who is getting Dish Network there?
Thanks!

I flipped on the radio here a couple of weeks ago and I found Sirius on a regular FM frequency(funny things happen when those waves bounce back down from the ionosphere). And yes we get radio here although the reception is more difficult in the bottom.

you can also go to www.streamaudio.com and find a bunch of stations from across the US/Canada playing any kind of music you want.
