Need information

Hello. I am a student from Norway that just finished my bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Arizona. I am interested in going to medical school in the carribien and Saba seems to be a good pick. Can anyone verify this? Also, if you don't have the neccessary science background, i.e. Physics, chemistry and biology - can you still apply, and if so how much time will one use to finish the courses before enrolling to the MD program? Also, do people usually finish in four years?

I would really appreciate if anyone could help me out with some information.

Thanks,

Magnus

I'm not sure....

Magnus,
Here's the class requirement to apply to Saba, directly from the website:
Applicants from the United States or Canada who are U.S. citizens or have permanent visas are expected to have a minimum of three years of undergraduate studies or equivalent to 90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours in an accredited college or university. A Baccalaureate degree is recommended but not required. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed a bachelor's degree or higher. Premedical studies should include the following courses:
General biology or zoology One academic year.
Inorganic chemistry (with lab) One academic year.
Organic chemistry (with lab) One academic year.
Physics (recommended) One academic year.
English One academic year.
Other A broad background in humanities, social sciences or physical sciences and computer skills.

Having posted that, it sounds like you're also looking into a pre-med program of sorts. Saba does not have a pre-med program, but our sister school, MUA, does. Saba does have the option of the Bachelor of Health Sciences degree, but this is concurrent with your studies in the MD program.

There are several students here at the school who did pre-med at Nevis (MUA) and then transferred to Saba for the MD program.

The MD program here at Saba is 40 months (as we don't take summer vacations) so it amounts to the same as the 4 year program.

I hope this has answered some of your questions. Feel free to ask more.

Thank you for your reply,

So do you know if my bachelor's degree in business will count for anything? Also, I know they give estimates as to how much tutition, living etc will be, but what is a realistic estimate for total cost per year for all expenses?

would you recommend this school?

Thanks again,

Magnus

Semester off

Miss Independent,
Yes, you can apply for a Leave of Absence and take a semester off. There are several people who do it, you just end up with the class that started after you.
