Probably not. However, I'd gather you'd need more competitive stats the later you apply.

" FUVC" "VC Sucks"

Go Raps Go.

Thanks for the response. Searching through the forum id say my GPA is very competitive (3.8ish). No MCAT. Average EC's. Think I have a shot for September because it is likely to be more competitive or should I just apply for January 09?

VC does suckk but i still gotta give em respect for putting Toronto on the map Hes the only reason we got National attention with games being broadcast on NBC.

Go for september, if you don't get in then they'll put you in for january.

It's easy to get in.

It seems like its harder to get admission then it was a few years ago. The rise in the quality of applicants is greater now then it was before. I would not say its easy, but it is easier then getting into a medical school in Canada.

I'm going to send in my application in a few days and see what happens. I hope I can get into for september if not then January it is.

With your stats, I'd assume you'd get into September with no problem.

I'm not sure what your circumstances are, but just from your numbers I'd say write the MCAT and at least try to apply in North America first. A few months studying for the MCAT could potentially save you so much time, money and security if your ultimate goal is to come back to practice.

Anyways I'm sure you've done your research. G'luck on the apps and maybe i'll see ya in the future.

I applied to the two Ontario schools that do not require the MCAT (Mcmaster and Ottawa). Mcmaster is a crapshoot I dont think I'm lucky enough to get in there. Ottawa I had a bit more hope becuase I met their cut-off from the GTA area. Again no luck becuase my ec's were just not good enough. I do not want to wait another year and still not be guaranteed a spot. I am interested in SABA primarily becuase it has a good track record of placing Canadians back and their student body is made up largely of Canadians so it wont be too bad spending 20 months there. I hope to see you on the island in September.

Hey VC15

I am in the same boat as you. Exact same boat.
I have a 3.55 GPA but no MCAT - no point in taking it because even with it, my 3.55 won't competitive enough anyway.

Ottawa Med - I did get an interview last Saturday, which I think I
F*&^# Up ... not gonna lie, pretty depressed now, that was my 1 and only chance for Canadian med.

I also don't want to do a masters / another undergrad or even wait for another year 'cause I don't want to still be in school when I'm 30! ( The average age for residency is 25/26 ... ) I'm already 23! Plus, as you have mentioned, it's not like we'll have a guaranteed spot if we wait another year.

Time to get this life started!

*** Also ... we can continue to apply to Canadian/Irish med schools while we're at SABA.

I personally know a doctor who graduated from there and is now practicing in NS and a highschool friend of mine is down there now, about to move onto her US internships.

Where abouts are you from?
Me - McGill Montreal & Mississauga

Accepted to Sep08 ( I hate saying that " I'm accepted to SABA " ... because literally, everyone gets in, as long as you have a pulse and a GPA above 3 )
Currently going out of my mind, trying to decide if I should defer or just go for it.

Cheers
Mas.

Didn't someone say in the interview thread that September was full already?

See Articulate's 3/13/08 post re: their interview

Probably best to call and confirm if you have your heart set on Sept

This is the post from yesturday.

hey,

i was in the same situation..they sent me a letter saying that i have not been accepted due to limited space and gave me the option to forward my application to MUA...this was just my case maybe they wanted to inform you about an interview through a letter..Dont get scared just yet wait for the letter and then see..I know the feeling i was freaking out too..but im sure it will work out...Good luck

It states that there is limited seating not that they are out of space.
