SABA vs SGU
what do pple think about these 2 schools in terms of best chance for a good residency? i have already been accepted to SGU and just recently found out about SABA. also i have had a couple of U.S. DO interviews. stats are 3.2gpa, 31Q mcat. tons of ECs (research, patient care, leadership). btw i have a friend at SGU but she will be wrapping up by the time i would head down there. thanks!

The school doesn't matter
Hey, as long as you're at a decent school, it's completely up to you to score well on the boards and perform well on the right rotations at the right hospitals for the right supervisors.
Personally, I will choose Saba for the cheaper tuition, and less distractions from studying. They provide a comparable quality of education too. |

I did some research recently on that very topic and found several helpful threads, http://www.valuemd.com/st-georges-un...ht=Saba+states
I came to the conclusion that SGU does a better job providing green book rotations. |

School reptuation matters?
Does school reputation really matter? I've always read that it's your personal credentials such as boards and LORs that come in play when resident committees assess your file.
Yes SGU does have a longer list of affiliate hospitals, so you have more choice there. But Saba also has greenbook hospitals. You'll just be more limited in terms of location. I think the bigger issue is whether or not the school is affiliated with hospitals that employ the "big name" supervisors that can write your LORs, which can help our your application vs a non-big-name supervisor. I really don't know the situation with either school regarding this issue. Does anyone? Is it really worth the 2.5x more tuition for the name of SGU and "better" rotations? What do you mean by "better?" |

I would say that reputation is built over time and based on the students' achievements in the medical field. Is the proccess producing an excellent product? If a school has a good reputation one would tend to think that the school is doing a good job at educating and preparing their students. From experience in other fields I believe that a school's reputation is taken into consideration when assessing a candidate.

That's a very suspenseful post there chitownguy
So Saba still provides greenbook rotations no problem? I guess the list is just shorter than SGU's Oh, and what if I want to do rotations under a "well known" supervisor in maybe emergency or general surgery. Is that possible at Saba?
