If Jan 2007 is anything like the other semesters, there is bound to be about 40 million additional desis immigrating to Saba.

LOL, this is so true! Saba, like most Caribbean med schools, is becoming predominently Desi, including faculty. About half the faculty here is now Desi. At some Carib schools it's approaching 100%. That's why it's so hilarious when EACH SEMESTER someone posts asking if there are any brown people attending Saba ...

I live for the day when someone posts here and says, "Hi I'm Desi but I want to know if there will be an opportunity for me to meet people of OTHER CULTURES AND HERITAGES while attending medical school on Saba." Shall we hold our breath?

E.

Actually Rishi is a hindu name meaning "priest" or "sage", and as a hindu/ darker skinned person I was curious what a desi is. Race is defined by culture so i thought perhaps it had to do with hindu culture. If i recall zarah is hebrew name and has nothing to do with the ghita; so maybe someone ought to think before they open their pie-hole....

I think Experienced was just being good natured...nothing to take personally Boulderunner..... But your informative post regarding "name origins" was, well, ahhh, informative. By the way, the name Zahra, Arabic origin, meaning radiant or luminous, is often spelled as Zarah, by Muslims ........So how about it HocusPocus, is that correct?? lol These posts sometimes get sooooo off topic....

orgin of name

My name is Nate, and that traslates as "very white" in a number of languages. The spanish sometimes accent the "e" on the end. Where as I am assuredly not Desi, I welcome any Desi's to Saba, mainly because they can cook so dang well.

First of all boulderunner I really don't understand why you are so angry and why on earth you're being so rude. Second of all, yes mozman Zarah is an arabic name and I've read multiple meanings for it, I prefer the princess one hahaha

As for you boulderunner, "desi" has nothing to do with being Hindu or the "ghita," it is a term used for anyone from Southern Asia, mostly India or Pakistan, not necessarily a Hindu or Muslim. I simply found it amusing when someone classified you as desi because of your name, and my post above was simply a joke. So please stop getting so emotional and pointlessly offended and relax...
