cheap but nice hotels on St. Martin?

Hello everyone,
I will be starting school in Jan 07 and will be going to the island without my wife. We are currently looking into plans for her to come visit in April after first semester and vaccation on St. Martin. Does anyone know of an afffordable, but not condemable place on the island that would be good to stay at. Currently we are thinking of the Orient Bay Hotel, but that is just from 10 minutes of internet searching. I figured my best bet would be to ask people who may have vacationed there themselves. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

P.S. If you know of good places to stay on nearby islands that could be helpful too. We are looking for something enjoyable but affordable. We aren't too picky about location.

orient can be a good 45 min drive from auc with traffic......on the dutch side there are hotels in maho, also caravanserie and the royal palm is further in simpson bay. you can also look at time shares.

if you search my user name you will find a post I made like a month or so ago where I listed the more popular hotels along with their phone numbers.

Cheap...

Nice...

In St. Maartin...

Pick two of these qualities and you will have found your place.

In my travels to St. Maartin, I've not found too many places that are cheap. There are lots of nice places that have fairly reasonable prices, though.

Try booking your wife's flight and hotel on Orbitz or Expedia as a combination vacation package. That should make it a little less pricey. You can also call the airlines directly and ask for their vacation reservations, they can sometimes get better rates.

Hope it helps...

The Royal Turtle

One of the cheapest and cleanest places. Also located walking distance from airport.

Best for those overnighters... otherwise we always stayed on the French side.

The Royal Turtle Inn, Simpson Bay Lagoon, St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles
