end of fifth semester

So students take USMLE at the end of fifth. But the ECFMG process takes one month (at least) to get an eligibility period. Then it takes a while to get the results.
Does this mean students have to wait for a semester, or do they start clinicals while waiting for all this?

u apply for the board while in school, and you can do psych while waiting for ur results, or u can take a break.

My brother was almost done with his first rotation before USMLE 1 scores came back. Internal medicine I believe was his first.

I think you can start rotations (varies on location, though?) if you've taken Step 1 pending scores. I don't know what happens if you fail though...
