I am not on Saba, but the general rule is yes, canadian banks charge you a fee for everything.

Just to let you know some interesting banking tips: I am a Canadian, and when ever i convert Canadian Cash into US in Canada i usually get: for 1 canadan doller i get about .82-.83 US. But the bank here give approximately from .89 to .9 US, so my advise: its better to just withdraw money from here then to get it converted by Canadian banks.

Hope this helps,

Siddman

That is excellent, congrats on the new machine

btw, the Canadian dollar has been doing really great recently. It is actually more like 95cents on the dollar.. so the bank is still taking 5 cents/dollar from you.

Restaurants certainly do but IMHO it is uncool to use a credit card at the grocery stores here. Also, I try to use guilders at the grocery stores, too, just out of respect for the locals. They even smile sometimes when I do. That's worth the trouble.

Ok, just so that I understand all of this:
- the saba atm will charge any canadian bank (whether its can or us funds)...5 USD?
- saba atm does NOT charge any american bank?
- RBTT bank...can we open up a USD chequing account, or does it have to be in the local currency...AND...is there any atm charge when withdrawing from the atm?

Also, could current students please give us a rough estimate about how much you spend per week (groceries, food, entertainment, etc)...

Thanks in advance...

RBTT charges me $3 per withdrawal from a US account. My bank doesn't charge for ATM withdrawals, so it's RBTT doing it.

My US bank charges me $2 for using an out of network ATM. The bank here doesn't charge me anything.

WAMU doesn't charge me for out of network transactions, but someone is charging me $3 when I take money out of the RBTT. WAMU says it's RBTT, thats the way it shows up on my statements. It doesn't matter how much I take out, either.

I use a credit card for groceries and no one seems so mind. Can you elaborate on why its "uncool"?
