Writing from the Saba Library

Hi all,

I'm here visiting Saba, and thus far, it's been wonderful. I visited MUA the two days prior (please see MUA forum), and Saba is a bit nicer than MUA facilities-wise, and the weather here seems to be a little cooler.

My mom and I arrived on the island from Nevis, after transferring through SXM on WinAir Flight 511. The landing was amazing. It was definitely the shortest landing I'd ever been on. We spent the night at El Momo's cottages in Booby Hill, near Windwardside, and the hosts there were wonderful. It's also very inexpensive, for about $50 a night for a basic room with a shared bathroom (though no one else was there in our section, so it wasn't really shared). It's a bit of a steep walk to Windwardside, where most of the stores and restaurants are. This morning we walked down to The Bottom, but along the way, Dr. S. (Physio professor) stopped by and picked us up, and drove us down to the school. It was a lot farther than we'd thought, and we were lucky that Dr. S. picked us up!

I talked with Dr. G., one of the deans and the Biochemistry professor for about 30 minutes and got a good gist of what goes on in the school, and the president of the SGA also stopped by and talked with me in the cafeteria. L. from admin also showed me around the school, including the very nice main building, and the library, and the gym.

I sat in on Dr. G.'s Biochemistry class, and it was a nice setting. Most of the students were paying attention, but I did see some playing solitaire :-P I met rdecastro, who welcomed me to the class and was very friendly. I didn't know I'd meet people I'd never thought I'd meet who were on ValueMD in real life!

For the rest of my time here, I plan on exploring the island, and I will be flying out tomorrow around noon to Statia to visit the school over there. (I thought since it was only a 10 minute flight over, I'd visit it while I was down here).

Stuff is a bit expensive here, but not as expensive as Nevis. They also take USD here more widely than on Nevis, where EC was pretty commonplace.

I'll add more when I get back to NY!

Thumbs up Great report!

Great report, Conway! I'm really glad you're coming down to visit the various schools. Btw, if you have any extra time while on Statia hike up their volcano called The Quill. It's a nice walk and awesome at the top. The fort there is also cool. Statia was the first 'country' to recognise the newly independent US of A and fired a cannon to salute an American ship from that fort. The British burned down most of Statia for their effort.
