well... honestly, i just went with all the cliches in the book...i even admitted to them it was cheezy, but it was how i truly felt. and i got in, so just tell them what you honestly feel, and be open about everything. good luck, you will do fine.

I never understand why people have a hard time with "why do you want to be a doctor". That should be the easiest question to answer, especially if you're so passionate about your future proffesion. But I can see why it creates so much anxiety, because that is the question that sets applicants apart from each other. So my best advise to you is, answer it as honestly as you can, show them you want it real bad...give examples to back up your comments....don't use mother teresa's "I want to help people" line...because so does everyone else that goes into medical school...Good luck

It would help to supplement the standard response with personal reasons, personal motivations or inspirations.
For example, you could say I want to help people because when I was a boy scout little Christian Thomas fell and broke his ankle, I automatically went to his side and calmed him and encouraged him to stay strong while the troop leader went to get help. While others looked on without saying a word, I knew that Christian would have been scared if I had not been there. We are best friends now and the satisfaction of helping him still makes me smile today. |
