SONNY! Congrats!
Hello all! Sorry for my absence! I matched in anesthesia at Penn State University!!! WOO HOO!! I'm excited!!
Hopeful, I did NOT have connections with most of the places I went to. I got my interviews based on my merit and LORs (two of which were from anesthesiologists). At a few of the places I interviewed the told me they either currently had excellent residents from Saba or formerly did, and one place even gave me the contact info of one of the faculty members who is a Saba grad - I talked with her much in e-mail. Contacts are definitely good, but don't worry - if you do well, have great scores, good LORs and are just all-around a great person to talk to during your interviews (don't try to impress, just be honest and be yourself), you should do fine! Now, keep in mind that if you're going for ortho, derm, optho - something along those lines, contacts are probably VERY VERY helpful. Anesthesia is now competitive but not nearly as much as those.
Best of luck!
Shauna
