Hey everyone,
Just wanted to give some feedback about this pysch rotation at the VA hospital. It's an inpatient locked ward which means there are many acutely ill patients. The place is very well organized and the computer system is extremely high tech. All patients records are on the computer, including the SOAP notes done by us the med students. H and P's are done by the residents. The rotation is VERY laid back and the residents and attendings are very approachable. I usually get there at 7:30 and leave anytime between 3:00 and 4:30. Weekends off and no on calls for students. I got to see an ECT today, which was interesting. They are done on Mon or Fri. So far, I have only had 3 pts sooo.. hopefully we will get more, b/c its pretty boring with no pts..oh and we are required to write 3 soaps a week on each of our patients so its not bad at all... Hope this was helpfull to anyone considering the VA hospital!!
Hey G,
Can you tell me more about the VA for psych?
What books do we need?
What's the accomodations?
What's the local community like?
Thanks G.

Kaplan and Saddock's Synopsis of psych + any other Saba tells us ( it will be given out in your fifth semester packet).
accomodations? --> Craigslist!!! Also, Saba will give you a housing list (once you fill out your paper work etc in 5th)
community? --> nice people, not much traffic, but cold weather

512 points Psych at KC VA hospital is green book by specialty.
It's under University of Kansas Medical Center Program [4001921070] on the ACGME website.
I have a question though...somebody is telling me that all VA rotations are always green book by specialty because they are on federal property. Can anybody verify that? It sounds nice, if true.

what's surgery like here?
510 points I did my IM rotation there but what i can tell u is that my roomate did surgery and she really enjoyed it...the doctors were great and yes it was very demanding! However, she saw alot and learned alot....based on her experience i would recommend it!
thanks vref - looking forward to it.
So far this is a very chill rotation...
I get in at like 7:30, see my PTs, meet with the team and discuss the PTs, round, and then chill (until a new PT comes in)...
The attendings, residents & staff are really friendly.
Right now, I am rotating with one other SABA student, ~6 KU students, and 2 DO students.
That's all for now -
