Way Behind
I just finished up an EM elective at Brookdale and enjoyed it thoroughly. There weren't as many stabbings and GSW's as I was told they got at Bronx Lebanon, but the ED was very busy and I got a great deal of hands-on. One great thing about this EM elective is you get a chance to spend a morning at FDNY telemetry and then ride an ambulance (a "bus").
I saw Saba students there doing IM and Peds. I did EM with SGU, NYCOM and Ross students. Don't know about much else. I liked Brookdale. Very nice people. A lot of good teaching in the ED. A great cafeteria - Island music everyday and good, cheap food. Best of Luck! PS - When were there SID? See you at graduation? Last edited by ResearchingGuy : 03-14-2007 at 12:57 AM. How to apply for electives??
How does one go about applying for elective rotations at this site? I was told by the clinical co ordinator that I had to fill out an application however I could find no such application on the website like I did for other hospitals. Anyone with know how kindly contact me, greatly appreciated.
Peace, love

Core rotations and housing
I have just finished all of my cores at Brookdale hospital with the exception of Ob/Gyn. The rotations are very different. Pediatrics is good if you want time to study. You rotate through 6 areas in 6 weeks, so no one knows you well enough to let you do anything. Psychiatry is very organized and structured with lots of patient contact. IM is also good, but you're limited by which attending you get, but you will learn alot as it's at most 3 students per team. Surgery is also excellent. with many opportunities to do procedures both in the OR and outside depending on how you prove yourself. 3-4 students per team so good one on one time.
If anyone needs an appartment nearby the school in a very safe area(Kensington) steps from the F line subway and steps to a bus that will drop you off at Brookdale, or Downstate medical centre or Maimonides Hospital or Methodist hospital email dbuchnea(at)gmail or call 646-761-7916 |
