Thread: M.D./USMLE Program at Faculty of Medicine, St.Petersburg State University, Russia

I have looked through the messages dedicated to Russian Medical Schools and want to draw your attention to English medium M.D. Program at St. Petersburg State University, Faculty of Medicine.

This is relatively young medical schools, but a part of the oldest Russian University. It is WHO listed and GMC-UK accepted.
Some differences with other Russian medical schools - for example, course thesis and graduation thesis, which are not required in other medical schools of ex-USSR. There is also option of additional training in USMLE and link to subsequent medical nursing program at affiliated institution.

A couple of things.

First, it appears that with the exception of the Naval and the Military Academies, the other three St. Petersburg schools are not currently recognized by the GMC, thanks to the affiliation scandal.

Second, I have real doubts that you can offer a USMLE preparation program. Anyone from Russia that has actually passed the USMLEs is, in all likelyhood, practicing in the US.

I stand corrected from an earlier thread where I didn't think the Russian schools were impacted. I still think that this is just the GMC being overly cautious since they were so incomprehensibly flippant and negligent with respect to their duty of helping to ensure public safety through basic checks. It is shocking they did not even make a phone call to check if the private medical college was accredited.

Anyway, the school made a last ditch effort to save their standing by claiming association with some Russian schools thinking the GMC would again neglect to follow up - and they were right! The BBC again exposed the fraud. I just think the GMC is now making absolutely certain about everything and those Russian schools should have their standing back soon enough. At least I hope so.

It could be a long time as the govts to govts communications take a long time.

I support the freedom of speech. I don't believe in the "right" not to be offended. See world headlines or the link in my signature for details about the Denmark row.

I think that more than 90% of protesters did not even see these cartoons, its just a mob mentality, hate without the understading. I also believe in freedom of the press.

As Miklos' first post stated about the medical schools relationship with the GMC-UK.
I seem to remember stating this on these forums, only to be told that i was incorrect by mkhail (something like that) Although he does have something to do with russian schools.
People shouldn't bother with these russian schools, as there is something not right about the way they do things. (Accepted, matter of personal opinion)

Lastly, people who are offended by these cartoons should really grow up, i mean i don't get offended by pictures of jesus on a motorbike with noddy (childrens cartoon character) in his sidecar. A picture is a picture.

It means: " I support Denmark in the fight for the freedom of speech"

It´s a storm in a glass of water - don´t know if this saying exists in English. Sad thing is that so many false rumours circulate in the Muslim world about what the Danes are doing. We should have burned the Koran in the center of Copenhagen and what not- this is NOT true. It never happened. We respect muslims in DK. Then a bunch of islamic priests from Denmark, went to the middle east, bringing the famous cartoons, including one FALSE one portraying the prophet as a big, then hell broke loose. These priests should be exported to Saudi arabia.

Also the people should make an effort to understand that the Danish prime minister cannot apoligize as such - he has no control over the press - hence freedom of speech. Of course this is difficult to understand for someone who lives in oppressive regimes... The majority of the Danish people believe (incl. my self) that it was wrong of the NEWSPAPER to publish, it is misuse of the freedom of speech, but suddenly the entire Danish population is being held as hostage. We recieve death threats and cannot travel to islamic contries at the moment. It is blown out of proportion.

Saddly I think it is going to be more difficult to be a muslim in Denmark, they did not want this crisis.
