Expanded List of Russian Schools w/ Eng Progs

Note to Moderators: I added this post ot the sticky but it could easily get lost there on page 5. I would like to request of the moderators that they delete/move some of the posts from that sticky that don't list medical schools in Europe. Several others in the thread made the same request and less than half the posts actually list schools which is the purported point of the thread. Thanks very much.

Here is a collection of links to some websites of Russian medical schools with English language programs. For some schools I also included the tuition and accommadation fees. There are several sites out there listing most Russian medical schools but many of the links are outdated.

This list is not meant to be complete just an addition to Dr. Tintin's post where he listed about six schools. However you want to knock some of these schools it's hard to knock the prices a lot of them offer.

Note: As far as I can tell the majority outside of St. Petersburg and Moscow do not require an entrance examination.

Order does not constitute any sort of ranking by me as I have no good basis for doing so. Here is a ranking that maybe someone else can verify as credible.
www.useic.ru/russian_education/rating/2004/medical.htm I believe Dr. Tintin said that this list only includes stand alone med schools and not the med schools that are just one faculty amongst others in a larger university. Good luck with your research and choices to all those still deciding.

Correction

Hello, to my experience the following schools certainly do not have Engl medium MD programs: ## 1,2,8,16 I doubt they have it at the schools ## 4,5,6,10,12,13 I also did not hear about such a program at St Petersburg State University, but they offer it at St Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy. Also, you did not mention Ryazan State Medical University

Well I was definitely wrong about some of them.
But I will quote from 2 of the websites listed. I am not sure about all of the rest.
#16: Foreign students have a choice to join Russian-speaking student group (after finishing 1 year preparatory course at the MSU) or English-speaking group (during first 3 years training goes in English, from 4th to 6th year - in English and Russian).
#13: The average cost at our Academy: at the preparatory course - $ 1000 per year;
at the Curative faculty: - English medium - $2200 per year - Russian medium -$1500 per year at the post-graduate course - $2500 per year; at the refresher course - $3000 per year.

And I think I got Dr. Tintin and Mikhail mixed up in the last post.

Be aware

I just want to post here to make people aware of the current situation with some of the russian medical schools with the GMC of the United Kingdom. I read that the GMC will NOT accept the primary medical qualifications (MD,MBBS or Equiv.) from a number of medical establishments in russia. This information is current and correct, as it is off the GMC-UK website.

Unfortunatly i have a problem with my connection and cannot get the page up, but perhaps if you look you will be able to. (www.gmc-uk.org)

I think the schools were all moscow/st. petersburg based, and im 99% sure that the following were on the list:
SPB Pavlov.
SPB paediactric acad.
SPB medical university.
People's friendship Univ.

So if you are considering practicing in the UK after graduation, please check with the GMC before you enroll, that your qualifcation will mean something. If you enroll and your primary qualification upon gaduation is meaningless, then you will have no chance getting a post in the UK.

Good luck people.

Delisted

I think what you are talking about might concern students attending European College of Medicine. I remember a while ago someone posted a link on here from a BBC report exposing that school. From what I understood at the time a student enrolled only at Pavlov, for example, should be okay. That was my understanding from the radio report.

Basically what happened was the school needed to establish accreditation in a foreign country as it had been revoked in Liberia - or the GMC found out they had never had it. So, ECM merely stated that it was accredited in Russia and the GMC accepted this apparently without checking. Then the BBC, with just a few phone calls, determined there was absolutely no such link between any of the Russian schools and European College of Medicine. Maybe there is also another issue but that is all I could see on their website. Anyone have that link to the radio report handy? If not I'll go find it myself.

The wording on the website sounds misleading, I think. It is under the heading European College of Medicine, though, and it ends with the word institution (no s) so I think the Russian schools are still in the clear. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

From http://www.gmc-uk.org/education/unde...uate_level.asp

We are currently investigating the European College of Medicine's previously listed affiliations to universities in Russia. Until our investigations are complete we have suspended our acceptance of medical degrees awarded by this institution and/or any of it's affiliations. Please contact us for advice if you are currently studying or applying to study at this institution.

Please note that GMC does not accept degrees awarded by the College's previous affiliation with the St Luke's School of Medicine in Liberia. The WHO has also confirmed that this school will be removed from their listing.

No, this part of the website had no mention of ECM, and just stated that none of the following russian (few other countries) universities qualifications would NOT be accepted by the GMC as a primary medical qualification.

This list included PFU, SPB, Moscow paed acad. and a few others. on the website there are no links between ECM and these universities. This may have now been removed as i cannot see anything of it now.

HOWEVER on the section that you posted on the ECM, the gmc says that:-

We are currently investigating the European College of Medicine's previously listed affiliations to universities in Russia. Until our investigations are complete we have suspended our acceptance of medical degrees awarded by this institution and/or any of it's affiliations.

the schools mentioned

It is something wrong with the school's name:there is no Moscow paed acad. There are 5 med schools in Moscow but noone has paed in the name. There is State Medical Paediatric Academy in StPetersburg.

Smile Just to clarify a few facts

This is just to clarify a few facts about the acceptance of certain St Petersburg Degrees by GMC. This is directly off their website, and I have posted the link below as well, so you can see the full thing for yourselves:

"Primary medical qualifications obtained from the following medical schools may be acceptable for the purposes of GMC registration. Doctors graduating from these schools and seeking registration are advised to contact the GMC as applications will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
St Petersburg State Medical Academy, Piskarevsky Prospekt 47, St Petersburg 195067
St Petersburg State I.P Pavlov Medical University, Ulica Tolstogo 6/8
St Petersburg 197089
St Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy, Ulica Lilovskaja 2
St Petersburg 194100
Grace University School of Medicine, Belize
College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Rodney Bay, Box 2478
Saint Lucia
International University of Health Sciences, P.O Box 1267, Brannigan House, St Kitts and Nevis
American International School of Medicine, P.O. Box 101728, Guyana
Kigezi International School of Medicine, P.O.Box 7, Kabale, Uganda
University of Sint Eustatius School of Medicine, P.O. Box 73, Orangestad, St Eustatius, Netherlands Antilles"

So they are still acceptable just not automatically adn u have to apply by yourself baisically.

GMC | Acceptable primary medical qualification
