From what my interviewer told me when I interviewed, there is a selection committee and they go over all your stats, ECs, recommendation from interviewer etc. If there are any huge weaknesses that suggest you might not have good study habits (low GPA, lower MCAT, or interviewer's thoughts) then they may suggest you for MERP. When my interviewer told me about it, I asked what I could do to avoid MERPing. At the time I was applying for September, and he said Sept was really almost full, but if I would consider May I'd have a much better chance. Low and behold I'm here on the island in May.
I will say about MERP that alot of the people I've talked to on the island who went through it found it to be a really positive experience (albeit expensive). The one advantage I've noticed so far is socially. Everyone from MERP already know each other etc. and it can be more difficult to break into those social circles as someone who didn't MERP. |

Chance? Please post
Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to ask you to see what are my chances of acceptance at ROSS. I have a 3.17 GPA and 19 on the MCAT. Please let me know if you know of anyone that has been accepted with these scores. Also if I can't get accpeted directly will I have chance to the MERP program. Please be honest and let me know, if you do know the answer. Thank you, |

I had very similar scores to yours, and I was accepted w/o having to do MERP. I have currently finished 5th, and have not repeated/failed a course/semester, and I am about to take the Step. My undergrad GPA ended up at about the same as yours, but my last 3 years of undergrad I had a 3.5, and was attending a major University doing all upper level major courses (Biol and Anthropology). I don't know if that had to do w/ the decision or not, but they want to make sure if your numbers are a little borderline/low, that you have fixed/fixing the problem that was the cause of the low scores. Anywho, I would definitely say that they would at least let you into MERP. I have a friend who had a high GPA, but got a 17 on the MCAT, twice, and was let into Ross w/o MERP, and he passed the COMP the first time, and is about to take the STEP.
Good Luck, and don't let the numbers/scores control your potential

MCAT is a bit low, but what else is in the package?
By this I mean, what else have you done? If you have put in the extra effort and volunteer items (prove it, don't lie) then you may have a shot. You have to show that you are a unique little snowflake. By the numbers you are borderline - would definitely get MERP if you wanted it. BUT put together an outstanding application (i.e. put some serious time into it, collect letters, write a Pulitzer personal statement) and they just might let you into the big leagues. You'll never know until you apply. |
