Housing for a non-barking dog and his owner?
I know it's going to be difficult to find housing with a dog at this late date. But does anyone have any specific information that may be of help to me.
The little one doesn't bark, chew, bite, or shed. Are there any landlords I could convince to let us move in? The price of rent is the only other factor I'm concerned with. All other issues (generators, distance to school, etc.) are inconsequential at this point. I've looked at the postings on the Ross Housing Database and I'd like to see if I could do better than $650/month. Your help would be truly appreciated. |

How hard is it to bring your pet down there? I don't want to part w/ my cat, but I feel it will be a hassle bringing Mr. Tucker down to Dominica and back home every semester.

Mr. Tucker
Mr. Tucker should be fine, if you're not planning to bring him in for May. I've read that landlords prefer cats to dogs and unless you plan to bring him down for May, you (we) should have plenty of time to set something up for next semester.
You still have to have to take him to the vet and provide some documents, I think. There's information in the packet they send that tells you what you need to do. |

I have a question about rent payment. It may sound a little stupid, to be honest, but my landlord who I just secured housing with isn't answering it straight.
I already paid my security deposit. In most cases, the people who have gone through this already, when is the first month's rent due? Do most like to get the first payment when you get on the island and sign the lease? or do they like to wait until I can pickup my loans? I would like to pay my first month's rent when I pickup my refund check. landlord has repeatedly told me that the terms and conditions will be told the day I arrive on the island and sign the lease. couple times...maybe he doesn't understand me.......damn. |

It depends on the landlord honestly. I think MOST understand and have dealt with students taking out loans. I know I told mine before I even landed on the rock that I wouldn't be able to pay until I got my refund check, and he was okay with it. The lease itself though states that the rent must be paid within the first 5 days of the start of the month, or something like that. You might want to call your landlord and just explain the situation and hopefully he'll understand.

Am I correct?
I just want to make sure that I have got this right. I will begin school in september and will reach Dominica the weekend before the orientation. Am I correct to understand that all the fantabulous apartments such as avis villes, coco mango etc will be taken? And all the choices that I will have wil be nice but not fabulous choices? Also with respect to roommates....whom I would love to have, how do people meet potential roommates that they are compatible with? Thanks guys and GOOD LUCK |
