Anyone know of any trauma doctors that have come out of Ross or SGU and have any thoughts to share? The emergency medicine residency percentiles for the field seem fairly low for both Ross and SGU.

All that most of us non-students know is the voluntary residency reports on the web sites and most students lose track of most of their class by residency.
If not yet, there will be one in a few years.Originally Posted by Boof

I have heard that unfortunately, the field of trauma surgery is folding up. the hours are long, and there are apparently many ways to arrive at being a trauma surgeon. Some of the hospitals who already pay an ER staff to do stuff are training EM residents in more invasive procedures, which is bordering upon what a trauma surgeon would do. since it is more expensive for a hospital to staff a trauma surgeon, they are moving towards staffing extra ER physicians trained to take care of trauma cases/trauma surgery. I am not sure of the exact details, and unfortunately, i have not personally read an article predicting the demise of this field, but i am sure someone could find something. good luck
Would someone mind explaining the residency/fellowship paths for the trauma surgeon and the emergency room doctor and what are the core practical differences between the two?
I would think that the ER docs would have to be able to perform invasive procedures if there are no trauma surgeons on staff, otherwise there better be some reliable surgeons on (fast) call.
You won't find Trauma on any match lists, since you have to do 5 years of General Surg first. By that time, the schools have lost track of the grads, who probably don't report the fellowship.
Check out this website in Saginaw. There are several Caribbean grads in this ER residency. Might be something for you!

As an aside (i.e. hijack), there sure are a lot of FMGs in the internal medicine program. In fact, only one DO and one PGY1 that are definitely from the US.
