transfer

zedpol..thanks for the great info..good luck at drexel, philly is great.

1. anywayz, i was wondering, do they look at undergrad gpa and MCAT scores? do they weigh those heavily in making a decision or is it mostly based on your performance in the first 2 years of medical school?

2. also, wut other credentials should we have from the first 2 years of med school other then great gpa and rocking the boards? like extracurriculars, which we dont really have time for in those 2 years. should i look into doing something over the summer or do they understand we are in med school and just put down our extracurriculars from undergrad?

3. did you submit the same letters from undergrad that u used to apply to ross or do we have to get new letters from undergrad professors?

thanks again.

Haha...this is the first time anybody brought this up but there are always a handful of former US med. school students at our 'fine' medical school.

man. I envy you zedpol. I'd be happy with just a 260 step 1. I wouldn't care about transferring anywhere.

you could do well at any med school.

did you have a science background prior to coming to Ross? and what was your strategy for attaining good grades, while juggling all those extracurriculars here?

I edited my post to answer your first question

2) Other credentials, do what interests you and if it involves an organization...great, if it doesn't, put it down under hobbies. Just so they know you are more than a bookworm. I used my extracurriculars from undergrad and medschool, focused more on med school
3) I used the same letters i used to for ross

I majored in General science with a minor in Bio and Chem. I graduated undergrad in 3 years and then did 1.333 years of pharmacy before dropping out to attend ross.

My extracurriculars were my strategy for attaining good grades. I did all those other things so i was refreshed enough to study and didn't get burned out. Studying 6+ hours a day isn't productive for me unless i am seriously under the gun. I would do 0-4 hours a day and more as I got closer to mini time.

ok. clearly you have a talent that most people don't have.

at 0-4 hours per day, you are studying less than the total number of class hours.

I can hardly finish any studying in 4 hours. Maybe I can cover 2-3 lectures in that time, but that doesn't mean I'll remember much.

Smile why?

I am just curious what compelled you to transfer to the US? Are clinicals that bad? And is it really worth the effort when you get the same degree in the end. I am starting this sept. so i am trying to get an idea of whether transfering is reasonable. Thanks

a US degree is always better.
and going to a US school gives you opportunities not available to caribbean grads.
