I would honestly stay away from Ross as a tranfer option. At this stage, any caribbean medical school is better. The smaller ones pay less in tuition and actually get their rotations. And to think, AUA and St Mathew's, schools that accept Rossie transfers are actually getting rotations in a timely fashion, unlike the pathetic situation that a decent proportion of us Rossies have the burden of carrying.

DO or Caribbean MD

I've gotten into Ross for Sept 2007 class, but now i'm having 2nd thoughts. I've heard from many folks that it is better to go to a DO school in the U.S. then go to an MD out in the carribean. I also heard that you've better opportunities of getting into a speciality if you stay here. I'm not trying to bash Ross in anyway; I'm only trying to convey what I've heard from other people. There are three people who in their 4th year at Ross and they are highly recommending me to stay here and go to a DO school rather than Ross. If I want to go to a DO school then I'll have a wait a year and if I stick with Ross I'll have completed a year. I'm so confused at this point. If you guys have any opinions, please, share.

I am also curious about the answer to your question.
I have a friend who is in DO school and I wonder how DO's are viewed, compared to MD's howbeit caribbean school graduates.

If I forget please PM me if you get a responce. Thanks.

this thread is NOT DO vs MD- it is specifically about TRANSFERRING either from ross or to it- it can be generalized to caribbean transfers in general, but i think you are WAAAYYY off topic.

I went to every school website (listed on AAMC.ORG) to compile my previously posted list. Granted not all schools even mentioned transfers but unless you have a specific school, I would stick with my list. I am at Ross now and you won't have time once you are down here. I had time to kill before I came.

i am crazy happy to be going to ross, but just putting it out there i got a 32 on my mcat, my gpa was a bit low (went to a bloody hard undergraduate program) and i'm entering in september.

I'm really not interested in losing a year, so as for advice, would you guys recommend that i take the step one and then apply for transfer? And when should i fill out the forms for transfer (i.e. during my second year or right after i take my steps??)

Transfer could be very difficult. I know people with very high Ross Grades/ STEP that didn't even get an interview, so don't count on it.. Some others did find spots.. so it's not impossible... but....

Can you bring your GPA up?? 32 is a solid MCAT. If not come down to Dominica and enjoy some Kubuli's.. (local beer) and STUDY Hard..

i don't really see the point in spending extra time, that's all. I figure ross is a handicap in terms of FMG, but if i do well i could still get a good residency. I currently am gearing towards EM, so i think i'm alright

This whole transfer thing has got me somewhat excited now. Only problem is I haven't taken the MCAT. I have all A's in basic sciences, I wonder if they'd make an exception for me at Drexel, or ECU (Im from NC). I think I'm going to ask them, but what do ya'll think? Any chance?
