I am part of the class that just took the usmle and we are all now waiting or have recieved are scores. I know of two people in my class who transfer to US schools. Both got below a 240 but above a 230. It is definitly possible to transfer. It really about the effort the student puts into trying to transfer. It is not all that hard.

its trial and error. generally the best is to find out who has gone where in the past. my class had 18 transfers. that was awhile ago now. NEOCOM, ohio st, penn st/hahnemann, chicago med were the ones i can recall off the top of my head. the problem is you can have the best scores in the world, and that means nothing if they dont have the spots. the only way they get open spots is people failing out, quitting, or taking leave of abscence and opening up spots for their 3rd year class.

I believe that New York Medical College accepts foreign medical students into their third year only.

NEOUCOM, Drexel, one of the SUNYs (upstate?), Tulane are the ones I applied or looked into, George Washington.

Drexel really is the only constant in that list of honestly taking at least a transfer each year.

NEOUCOM had no openings this year, but had like 16 the year before (missed the deadline on that application ..).

You need to be at the 235 mark or so on step 1 to be considered honestly. Stronger if you can break the 240.

GPA, just needs to be good.

closer to 4.0 is better. But I dunno how much weight they'll put on the gpa. every school has a different system.

its like comparing a 4.0 at a community college to a 3.2 out of harvard. You gonna say the 4.0 is a better student?

The United States medical schools care about the Step 1 score, which is the result of a well-designed and statistically controlled exam; the g.p.a. is not at all statistically controlled and can never be compared between schools or within schools, as curriculum changes, resource changes and hundreds of uncontrolled variables render it nonsense. A bored but brilliant medical student who cares nothing about the meaningless local exams and blasts Step 1 with a 240 or greater could get the attention of a United States medical school. No one can accidentally get a 245 on Step 1. But a great score alone is not in any sense a guarantee of a student possessing the ability to become a great physician; obsessive "memorizing" can improve a score, but the person can be a social cripple in communicating with a patient, or have a terrible work ethic. Any medical school worth attending needs to personally interview the applicant to screen out the defectives.

The extremely small quantity of available "transfer" seats throughout the United States medical school system vary between few and none.

I think the question which started the "thread" in 2003 (before penicillin) has been answered.

KILL THE THREAD.

Perhaps Ross Med does not want the thread killed; perhaps the "thread" is a sales tool to get newbies to think they can all transfer to Harvard after turning their infantile brains to cheese on the rock.

If you really want to get in to a United States medical school with only a 239, for example, donate your body to medical science at the school of your choice and walk in front of an 18 wheeler.

KILL THE THREAD.

An excellent article I read during the summer indicated that statistically, all the medical students with excellent Step 1 scores were going into anything but the primary care specialties, a sad statistic which indicates that medical students attempt academic achievement as a route to cash reward and don't want to touch the destitute patients who need the greatest care.

KILL THE THREAD.

I will chat at you later, I got to study and get my 250.

Hey, I havent even started at Ross but just wondering on transferring. When would be the best time to transfer from Ross and why. After Step I or during basic sciences? I graduated with ** in Biochem with GPA of 4.0 and MCAT of 28. Well, let me know which way is the best. Thanks in advance.
