BANK OF AMERICA $in Dominica

I called bank of america today becuase its supposedly the best bank for students to work with howevere the do not have locations in NY and NJ (im in NJ) and deposits can only be made via mail. This would defeat the whole purpose of having an account with them. i want a bank where my parents can deposit money if needed and it can be available to me immediately at the Dominica bank.

Mitchdoc, you suggested bank of America, what is the next best bank to work with, i cant do buss with bank of America. Anyone else from NY/NJ use another bank here in the states

thanks for your help

Doesn't matter

Doesn't really matter who you bank with because if you need money here, all you do is just go to the bank on campus and they'll swipe your debit card for cash, or you can go to the atm in portsmouth. I use Bank One, and it works just fine and should for you too if your card has a visa/mastercard logo on it.

Since we are on the subject....

The National Commercial Bank (NCB) who has a branch on campus has just informed us that they are reconfiguring their ATM so that it will now take VISA and MasterCard debit cards. Prior to this, the NCB ATM only took the bank's own card, but now students will be able to access their stateside accounts from the ATM on campus.

(As for banks to work with, I use Wells Fargo and have had no problems. But as Foxtrot said, it really doesn't matter as long as your bank issues either a VISA or MasterCard debit card.)

Do you know when NCB's ATM will accept stateside debit cards? Thanks

This week

NCB will finish it's reconfiguring of the ATMs this week. As soon as they reopen them, they will accept your VISA and MC debit/check cards.

I'm also told that in the future, your NCB card will be usable worldwide but I do not know when that will take effect.

ATM

Linus,

I don't know the answer to your question, but I am guessing from a business perspective, it would not be in the NCB's best interest to offer a Cirrus service or the like where international Debit cards are acceptable from international banks. This would negate the need essentially for an NCB account, and the bank might as well just offer ATM machine services then only.

Don't get your hopes too high on this is my bet.
