Timeline for Sept 2003 starters

re: Timeline for may starters, which can be viewed at: http://www.valuemd.com/viewtopic.php?t=734

Is my calculation correct for Sept starters?

Basic Sciences
Sept 03-Dec 03 1st term
Jan 04-Apr 04 2nd term
May 04-Aug 04 3rd term
Sept 04-Dec 04 4th term
Jan 04-Apr 04 5th term-Miami

When do you take the USMLE I?

Thanks for any help!

Re: Timeline for Sept 2003 starters

the 5th term in miami is only 9 (NINE) clinical weeks. thus, from jan'05 till early march'05. this semester is NOT a full 15-16 week semester.

the remaining time: from mid-march'05 to the start of the next semester (mid-may)...approximately 1.5-2 months, you should be studying for and passing USMLE step 1.

yes, i think you apply for a testing date at a local testing center like prometrix or something like that. you may not get to choose the exact date you take the test...but pretty close to want you seek...usually within 2 weeks of desired test date. thus, planning wisely and studying hard are you best weapons!

Re: Timeline for Sept 2003 starters

the USMLE step 2 is taken after most, if not all, core clinical rotations are finished. most people take about a year to finish the cores. thus, you can take step 2 at that time...up until you graduate (ross requires it for graduation). there is a lot of leeway there...thus, there is indeed time to study for them.

most people say that step 2 takes less time to prepare for than step 1. the running joke is: for step 1, study 2 months...for step 2, study 2 weeks...for step 3, bring a number 2 pencil.

because there is alot of leeway, there isnt a specified time to take it. many residency programs dont ask to see the step 2 score at the time of interview. in fact, i know of many, many US grads who actually took step 2 AFTER their last day of classes their senior year (thus, they matched without step2)! of course, they all needed to eventually pass step 2 soon after in order to graduate with the class and start residency later that summer.
