Is it better to buy books in the U.S. and ship them to the island or wait and buy old books off of a student in the previous semester? Also where is everyone buying their airline ticket from? Is if better to go directly through American Airlines or an agent? Thanks

You can buy your books when you get here. Students are always selling their books during and before the 1st week of classes.

For the airline tickets, I guess you could go through either AA directly or through Power Travel.

I would also try the online sites (i.e. expedia.com, cheaptickets.com, obitz.com). You may find the cheapest fares there. When I use those sites, for some reason if I enter my departure city (DFW) and DOM as final destination, I always get a higher fare than if I break the trip down. For example: enter DFW to SJU first and then SJU to DOM as a seperate trip. That is just my experience though. I'm not sure it that happens for everyone.

My daughter had good luck getting books from Amazon.com. She had them shipped to the house in the US, and then we packed them with her to go to Dominica. REMEMBER, though, that you are limited to a TOTAL of 70 pounds for your checked luggage, and 30 pounds in your carry-on bag. Books are HEAVY, so if you are coming down with a parent, it will afford you more packing space/weight.
