Arrow Ross Has High Number of ACGME Approved Rotations

I actually sat down and looked through ACGME.org and cross-checked the hospitals on Ross' affiliation list and it seems that Ross has a very large number of green book rotations. This is especially true for Kern and several New York hospital centers.

It almost seems possible to do all your electives within the affiliated hospitals so as to avoid problems with licensure in a few nit-picky states.

I had always given SGU the advantage in terms of rotations but it seems that Ross is not that far off. And if Dr. C's projections are correct, Ross should get a few more affiliations added to the list within the next year or two.

not totally true

McGillgrad:

If you see ACGME rotations on the Ross affiliation list that is great. The more importnat thing is to find out how many students actually get the rotations at many of the Ross affiliated hospitals. In addition I believe that many ACGME rotations that Ross has in electives won't be sen on the ACGME site. If the core such as internal medicine or Family practice is ACGME then all the elective under those rotations are automatically ACGME. The electives you see on the ACGME site are those haveing felowships.

If anyone doing residency knows different please le t us know the facts.

Well, it is quite obvious that the New York and Kern rotations would be the workhorses. Taking a quick look at scutwork.com will show that some reviews explicitly mention Ross students.

The rotations at the ACGME approved sites with one or two approved residencies would be the ones that may have limited spots for Ross grads.

Unfortunately, Ross does not specify which rotations are usually completed at each hospital (as SGU lists). Nor does Ross list major-minor affiliations.

I have found myself getting too far ahead and worrying too much about this and that perfect rotation when all that matters is that I have a great experience and that it is ACGME approved (and falls into line with the training required for all 50 states).

PA, CA, TX and FL off of the top of my head.

And NY if you want to get licensed as a non-US resident/citizen.

YES, it is. I did and many of my colleagues did. It might require you to move around a bit, but it really depends on the type of rotation you want. I chose to do only MD rotations (not DO) so that in the future I wouldn't have to worry about the state licensing issues. Of course, to get all MD rotations, you have to fuss and re-arrange your schedule. Yes, I did my psyche core at the end of the 4th year. So really, if you can live with the little bit of hassle that accompanies this you can avoid future hassle.

Singer, what you said was correct.

how much hassle are we talking about?

how many times did you fly around the country, and what was your average length of stay at any one place?

Being a CA resident, if i had a choice, I'd love to do 90% of my rotations at Kern, but we all know Ross screwed that up.

Actually, i didn't fly, but i had a (*new*) car and put on 20 000 miles in the 16 month period of rotations. Flew home on occasion. I stayed between 2-6 months in any one location (NY, MD, OH). It was hassle, because I had to find a place to live every few months, and $$ was always an issue for me (never had enough). I used to just fill up my car and drive to the next city ($4.99 road atlas came in handy!). It was convenient having a car, and when i was in NY between states, I would put my car in storage and take public transit.

It's doable, but you must always think ahead, have a schedule to fill in the blanks with electives. I had to run to Ross (NJ office) to pick up my loan refund check every few months since there would no use sending the check home. My current address used to change so often, it was ridiculous at times. I never knew what to call home...it basically became...."wherever I slept that night = home" [i.e call room, friends house, brother's apt, rented apt, etc....] Also, you must schedule your Step exams and fly around the country to take those (CS) and prepare match applications etc...
Absolute madness at times, but it wil prepare you for what lies ahead.......
But the best thing, is I'm glad it's over, and I live at one place now...i.e. residency. So be glad...the struggle is ACTUALLY worth it. [and you get paid!!!!]

Clinical Centers

Yes, and there are now several "clinical centers" to choose from:

1) New York - multiple hospitals
2) Wisconsin - one hospital
3) Georgia - one hospital
4) California - Kern County - one hospital
5) California - Arrowhead Regional? Family Medicine is a UC-Irvine MD affiliate.

See clinical affilations list on the Ross website.

Mitch,

Did you obtain the 'clinical center' definition from the clinical department in NJ?
For anyone interested, here's the direct link to the Ross clinical affiliations webpage http://www.rossmed.edu/Medical_Schoo...iliations.html
