Research availabiltiy at ROSS

I've been accepted for the Jan 06 class and I'm really excited to begin but I prefer some research experience during medical school...now I know that what is great about Ross is that the profs don't have to do research therefore they're more available but does that mean we wouldn't have many research related activities available?

Has anyone participated in research during the first 2yrs at Ross or Miami, or does it usually occur during the 3rd and 4th years?

thanks for your help, as you can see I'd appreciate any input since I’m pretty clueless...

Research

There is research at Ross. Nothing spectacular.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on studies while on the island and take some research electives when you get to 3rd/4th year.

3rd and 4th year

I agree....Just wait til you are 3rd or 4th year, and there will be real research going on at whatever hospital you are at. I have just recently inquired about research projects at the hospital I am at in NYC, and there are currently 3 different projects going on (GI, immunology, and cardio), so I will have a choice of what I want to do. Good luck....

better yet

...why dont' you wait till you get into residency? too late???...nah....there's more than enough opportunities then....

Focus on getting thru med school and doing well on the boards. Keeping sane also wouldn't hurt. :-)

alpathmd, thanks for the input but it would be almost useless to wait until residency since the goal of getting some research experience during med school is to help in attaining some higher and more competitive residencies. I know it’s early to say but in addition to great step 1 scores and school rank, many places are looking for some research experience.

I guess someone who has some experience can add some input; did you feel like research experience improved your chances of getting better residencies?
