I dont believe I was referring to the classrooms. Yeah, they have two of them, But what does that have to do with the policies of the school and the manner in which they adminster them. The school is a for profit school and groses a net 60, million a year, I would expect a medical school that makes that much in profit to have some toys as selling points. Most american school do not have that kind of money, and therefore, unargueably, dont have the funds to throw up a couple nice rooms. But what they do have that Ross does not, is infrastructure. AND I do belive that I lived on that island. Despite visits to the island, you cant comment on living conditons and the stress one incures from the conditions of that Island. Its a simple fact that the infrastructure of that island can not support the type of facilities they are planning. I disagree with you, Maybe your son, had just a wonderful time there, but, unlike him, I am not a fan of the school.

not a pleasure island

dipphylobrothum:I never said my son enjoyed Dominica as a Carribean paradise or that he could understand the accents on many of the teachers. After each test not only my son but his parents became stressed out waiting for the test results.

But he had no real choice. He didn't get into a US medical school and he wanted to go to a well established carribean school so he chose Ross.

Somehow he made it through to clinicals so the process had to work. Hopefuuly it will continue to work until he becomes an MD.

Maybe you have other choices. If you do great. If not then you really can't complain too much.

diphylobrothum,

First, CONGRATULATIONS!!! on making it off the island and into 5th semester in Miami. Hopefully Miami will be a more pleasant experience for you and then on to Step 1, clinicals etc...
Your Dominica experience is still a fresh memory. I would speculate that over time when you realize what that experience has gained for you, in benefits for the rest of your life, your memories of Dominica will "mellow-out". My pampered, US, middle-class, kid says Domicica was a character builder and is a stonger person because of the experience, now awaiting Step 2 results and applying to residency programs. I don't care how much profit Ross makes, the more the better. I'm grateful Ross was available to provide my kid the opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream.

Individuals can come on this forum and complain all they want about Dominica but don't expect any 'pity' or 'sympathy' from any attendings, residents, or other medical students they meet. They will just label these you as another overindulged, self-entitled, whiney Ross medical student.

And it's not like you didn't know or was told by Ross the island is a 3rd world nation before you stepped on the rock! Please......cry me a river........

actually

attendings and other residents will give you grief about going on a caribbean "vacation" for med school. your stories of difficult living conditions will not impress them at all. obviously the conditions arent that bad, and thousands of Ross grads have survived them. and what gets me is the whiners crying like little babies about the place now, but when pics get posted, theplace looks 100 times more modern then when i was there. and I knew a few Rossies from the late 80s and early 90s who looked at my pics and didnt believe that such a "modernised" country could be Dominica! is Dominica as modern as Miami? of course not, and if you go expecting such then you deserve to be miserable. is it as bad as some people here make it out to be? of course not also. it is not the US, hence the designationas a foreign med school. now getover it and quit whining!
