INTERNAL MEDICINE:
I have finished Internal Med here this past May. Rotation was really good. Days were 7am-4(4:30pm) at MIH and 7-3 at St Johns. Short call once a week (m-f) and one 24 hour shift on a Saturday once per month. Learning is hit or miss depending on intern. For most part interns were very good. Being the new residency year, new interns will come, but the PGY2 and PGY3 residents will be very good. The upcoming chief resident (who was transitioning right at the end of my rotation) started a rule where students can not write daily notes. Actually we are now allowed to write two full notes, but the intern still has to write their own. So most work will be to do discharges, run down to Radiology, draw blood and do other things. Following a second or third year whenever you can will get you more involved with seeing procedures like LPs and -centesis'. Overall, i really enjoyed it. For most part, everyone got either 28/30, or 30/30 unless you really never participated or acted dumb. |

PSYCH:
I am doing psych right now. 3 weeks inpatient psych, 1 week detox, 1 week clinic, 1 week consultation. A little disorganized at the moment cause right when we started a new department head was named. But overall very easy and good rotation. Hours are only 9am-12, with lectures 130-230 MWF. After 5 weeks we have only had 3 lectures, but i'm sure that will change. The attendings have just been very lazy and keep cancelling. In inpatient, we usually were there only 9-10:30 or 11 for the one attending and the other usually kept showing us patients until 12. Both attendings are really nice, but the one is leaving in mid June. Sometimes they'd let us leave right after rounds, (9-930 or sometimes til 10). But you get to see all kinds of patients so you still learn everything you need to know in the short time (at least if you aren't that crazy about psych). Many schizos and bipolar. Few OCD and paranoia, gradiose personalities, etc. Detox week is 830 to about 12, pretty laid back as well. Clinic is a good opportunity to see outpatient people and see them at a later stage in their disease, after some management. Clinic attendings are very nice and will do some teaching. Consult attendings I heard are a little more strict and just impress them because I heard their evaluations can bring your scores down. Don't skip days during the consult/clinic/detox weeks cause if the Consult doc's hear about it, they may try to fail you. |

Can someone explain about Caritas. I'm confused about if it is its own hospital or part of Wyckoff now? Is there an ACGME internal med residency at Caritas itself or has it now been combined with Wyckoff or another hospital??

HEY--> if you emailed him and he hasn't responded back, considered it done MEANING he gave it to you. he usually doesn't respond to emails unless it doesn't work out. If you emailed him, show up on the dates you gave him at 9am at his office. He will give it to you. trust me. I've done all my electives that way. NOT cores, but electives. |
