ACGME/AOA

I think indicating the ACGME/AOA status on each site would be great, but it would be difficult, considering there may be some specialties that are either one within the same facility.

TO CHECK WHICH ROTATION IN WHICH FACILITY IS ACGME v.s. AOA GO TO:

As far as I know, all rotations are back to back at Jackson Park. The most you would have is 1/2 weeks of break, which you can fill with electives.

chicago hospitals

questions about Chicago hospitals:

1) does any one know if we are required to do ALL our core rotations there, or can we do some somewhere else (ie NYC or Miami) and finish off in Chicago?

2) can our core rotations be scheduled "back-to-back" between rotations? If not, then does anyone know what is the longest TIME between rotations and HOW OFTEN are these gaps?

thanks a lot!

-CT

re

i can answer part of it.

I'm doing 2 cores before I go to chicago. Chicago starts every 3 months I believe.

If you go to chicago, you have to do you IM core there. I am told that the next rotation begins almost immediatly after the previous ends.

If you're not in chicago, but doing it in another city, i guess getting schedulded back to back depends on availability and lack of having any preferences.

I have almost a 2 month gap between when I end pysch and I start JPH. I need to at least get 1 4-week elective schedule. Maybe I can fit in a 2 week elective as well in that time.

nbme

Bevo,
Not once during any of my rotations (cores or electives) did I have to take a shelf exam. During cores, each individual core will admimister their own "final" exam of varying length, but this is in no way an NBME type shelf exam like you took on the island. Apparently, However, I have heard that Wyckoff/Ross was administering NBME shelves for the the medicine and surgery rotations that were purely for statistical reasons and did not factor in to final grades. I do not know of any other sites anywhere that have done this, though they may exist. peace

Family Practice Core rotation at Larkin Hospital is great

The Family Practice Core rotation at Larkin Community Hospital in Miami is the best rotation I have experienced.
The hospital also has affiliated clinics that serve the uninsured, over 15,000 people, so you can image the oportunities for learning.
Dedicated group of attendings who love to teach and spend time with us.
I also highly recommend following up with a Pulmonary elective with Dr. Manny Suarex, excellent training.

why

Rossmed7,
Your enthusiasm is admirable, but I am thinking that if you think that Larkin is such a great learning experience, you must not have done too many rotations just yet! Do a few more and you will gain a little more perspective.

Read the first page of this thread and you will see reviews on different core rotations at different sites. Then you can decide.
