Kings County!

Hi everyone. Do you like being tortured? Do you like being degraded? Do you enjoy being belittled and made fun of by fat nurses? Then King's county is the place for you.

Don't listen to those people who claim you learn a lot. Big deal. You can learn a lot the first month you are in residency. Those people, like Infirisgirl, just want to make sure you suffer and are as miserable as they were.

If you want to learn, you can learn in almost any hospital, you don't need to subject yourself to the abuse and nasty environment of King's county.

For all of you who fail the boards, then maybe you should consider going to King's county, because you will fit right in, like *********.

kings

Can you please give a little more input about details of kings. Any days off? Any parking privilages? Any other things we should be aware of. I'm scheduled for kings soon.

P.S. This part is for DRU...

I know you link all clinical posts in the clinical thread, but many people who are available to answer the questions posted don't always look in that thread. If you leave the posts as they are they get more feedback. I haven't gotten my question answered once yet when i posted in the other thread. Give this one a chance. Thank you.

I did IM At Kings exactly two years ago and it sounds like it hasnt changed a bit. It definitely is a tough rotation. I can see why some students get their feathers ruffled. Although, it was my first rotation, its a double edged sword in doing it first. By that I mean, If you can handle it, every other clinical rotation will be cake. If, however, you struggled then it leaves you with a really bad impression of clinicals. Trust me......few rotations in NYC are as difficult as Kings. If you can get thru that place with your sanity, then it will be all downhill from there.
The only REAL problem I can think of with that place is that it can be as subjective as 5th semester. If one of the attendings or PA's dont like you than you are in trouble in more ways than one. It can be anywhere from getting verbally berated constantly like other have mentioned, to the worst case scenario, (which does happen) FAILING the rotation. You cant be a clown during this rotation!!!

Fear: My days there were 12-14 hours long, there was some student parking but very little (required parking pass) Very little formal lecturing, we did everything from phlebotomy to patient transport, etc. You are bascially the intern on A-5, so get ready!!!

Hope this helps.

Cuando2:

I don't think were talking about a separarate clinical forum for the Ross clinical info only the sticky thread on the Ross page where Dru has all info dealing with clinicals.

thanks

thanks for the info guys...

Singer: what i was trying to say is that i posted this question more than once previously and was never able to get any answers. Now i got an immediate answer b/c DRU hasn't moved it to the STICKY ontop. Hence i think that it's much more efficient to leave posts as they come, without moving them. I got 2 replies in just 1 day, and you can check the sticky that this same issue was never even addressed when it was linked. Thanks. (Dru take note, i appreciate you not linking this to the clinical thread yet)

I appreciate your understanding...the issue of keeping all the clinical site info together is to prevent various info from getting buried and lost. If you read the sticky re. clinical sites, most questions get answered. I'll leave it here for a few more days and then lock and link it.

A major issue with Kings County has been the nursing staff, which I take a personal interest in, since I'm a nurse. I've had a lot of behind-the-scenes feedback from Rossies re. Kings County nurses. Most of it, unfortunately, has not been very positive. I honestly can say that I'm glad that I'm not on the administrative team there, because I'm not sure there are enough hours in the day or strength in my body to change some of the things that are going on there. On the other hand, it may be a positive experience for you, as a medical student. It will teach some of you how badly things can go for health care teams when you are dealing with nurses who are lazy. It will challenge your communication skills. It will make you realize how important it is to write clear, correct, and concise orders. It will make you understand the importance and meaning of being a health care TEAM.
