life during residency
Hey guys,
Jim is right, you really do make enough money to be comfortable. Of course it depends on if you have a family to provide for, that could get really difficult although some of my collegues somehow manage to do it. Depending on where you are there are usually also moonlighting opportunities available, typically not for interns or non-US citizens, but the policies vary. The residency salaries are also variable based on your geopgraphic location, if you life in a place that has a higher cost of living, the salaries are generally a little higher to compensate for that. I was able to buy a house when I started my residency 3 years ago, something that is serving me well because now I am staying for my fellowship. Anyway, don't sweat it, there is a lot of residents out there and we all seem to manage just fine.
