new jersey sites

Anyone do any residencies at any New JErsey Ross affiliated hospitals. I see a couple are affiliated with UMDNJ. Any comments on where to live?

Hi Medtekboy!

I currently live in north jersey, and Jamaica Queens is about an 1 hour 15 minutes from my place without traffic (and i live about 15 min. from manhattan with no traffic also). Perth Amboy is in central jersey, it takes me about 35-40 min. to drive there on the parkway. It's definitely possible to drive back and forth, but travel times might be long. I don't know what you're schedule is like but in my opinion it might be too much for you to drive back and forth for 12 weeks. Hope this helps a bit.

Maria

Furnished Rooms in NY (including TV!) for $500 only!

A friend of mine has just bought a house, and has 3 rooms left on 2nd floor. I have seen the place myself, and it is very clean. Located near the JFK airport, literally a minute away from Belt Parkway. The location is convenient for almost all the rotation sites that Ross is affiliated with. He rented out 2 rooms already, and still has 2 or 3 left. For $500, it includes all the utilities and fully furnished rooms with TV! There's plenty of street parking, neighborhood is relatively quiet, but minutes away from everything. This is the best deal I have seen for an exceptionally clean place in New York. If you are interested, you can call him at 917-602-3071, his name is Jeet.
Hope it helps! (btw, i am not getting any commission for writing this ad!)

Again, you don't have say as to which attending you're assigned. You will learn your psych from him if you're lucky enough to be on that team.
As far as living, you don't want to live in Anacostia, which is the area were you'll be. Your advisor should have sent you a list of rooms/apt available. I lived with family in Virginia and commuted daily (about 30 min). Good luck.
I'm considering doing the Special in DC. Anyone else with any experience have suggestions on housing in DC? How about transportation? Possible without a car? I'd appreciate any information or experience anyone can provide.

Great room available in NYC for $650

Hey guys, I'm in my 4th year doing rotations here in NYC at different hospitals. I have a nice clean room available ASAP in a house for ROSS students only. We are all ROSS students in the house so it's nice if you ever need anything and it's a safe, clean, quiet place to study. One room is open in a 3 bedroom apartment on the second story of a private house in a quiet, safe area. The whole apartment is newly renovated with fresh paint and hard wood floors, new kitchen and bathroom fixtures. The room is approx 10'X 11' and the kitchen and bathroom are shared with myself and one other person. The rent is $650. There is the Q4 bus line 1 block away, you can also ride it 10 min to the E,J,Z lines and also the air train to JFK. If you have a car like me, there is free parking in front of the house with no street sweeping regulations which is so nice and unheard of in NYC. It is pretty convenient for ROSS students that do rotations in NYC like myself. I have been living here for 6 months with no problems and am loving it.
If you are interested please call me at (214)783-3712

Nice housing in Brooklyn, NY

To everyone that will be beginning your clinical rotations in or around Brooklyn, NY in MAY...I'm graduating and have been living in a renovated 2 bdrm apartment here with a roommate. Its very nice, spacious, and located on a quite street. Its actually the 3rd floor of a house, and the landlords are incredibly hospitable and nice. Its conveniently located to most of Ross' sites, subway station, shopping, restaurants, gym, etc. Parking is readily accessible.

If anyone is interested in more information, message me. If I had to do it over, I'd definitely choose this place again. For what the place offers, the rent is exceptional.

Good luck to all!!

Bergen Medical Center in Paramus, NJ

Hey everyone,

I am starting psych at Bergen in May and was wondering if anyone could recommend an area to look into housing. I understand that many people commute from NYC but I am not very familiar with the area and any advice would be greatly appreciated as far as places (regions) to live. Thanks so much in advance.
