new york new jersey question
Is it okay to commute from Jamaica Queens, NY to the Raritan Bay Med Ctr in Perth Amboy, NJ everyday for 12 weeks?
If possible, I would like to attempt this but I dunno if this is a reasonable commute to do for 12 weeks in August to October? thank you bless Last edited by medtekboy; 07-14-2005 at 01:55 PM. |

reason being is that, I have family in Jamaica Queens and would like to stay with them during the time being.
My schedule after that would be perfect since my other rotations are but a spit away from Jamaica Queens thanks |

Great place to live for rotations in NY
This place is great for ROSS students doing rotations in NYC. We're all ROSS students in this 2 story house so your not alone, it's in a good quiet neighborhood, the room is a pretty big one for what you get here, it's ~10'X10' , plenty of parking in front of the house, transportation nearby, in a safe quiet neighborhood, it's close to all CMC and Queens hospitals and 30 min. to Wykoff Hospital driving, trust me, you don't want to live near Wykoff. This place is NIIICE & CLEAN & newly renovated with all new appliances, fresh paint, and hardwood floors, as opposed to the usual crap-hole you get for ridiculous prices here in NYC. Anyways, the place is available now, call me at 214-783 3712 to check it out.
Good Luck |

moderator, why did you remove my post?
Moderator:
Why was my post about my Kaplan books removed? ANSWER: The selling of Kaplan materials (books, tapes, q-bank data, etc.) is illegal and against the rules of the VMD Forum. Kaplan has legally declared their materials as their possession, and when you buy their review course, you are only borrowing them. Offering Kaplan books for sale is like borrowing hospital scrubs to wear, and then trying to sell them. Thanks for your understanding. Dru Last edited by Dru; 07-21-2005 at 04:58 AM. |

post moved re CT housing
Mike233204 posted:
Connecticut Housing After being sheduled to start my rotations at St Elizabeth and Prince Georges, I got confirmation that I was placed to start at St Mary's in CT with IM followed by surgery. St. Marys was my first choice, and after a long waiting period and having some good options, I thought it was not going to happen, but here I am now definately starting on Aug 2 in Connecticut. Is there anybody familiar with these rotations that can give me any feedback and advise? and most importantly, where should I start looking for housing? PS. Thanks to spatel and md1979 for sharing your experiences in my previous post. Peace!

St Mary's IM and Surgery Cores
Nobody that has done these cores in Connecticut that could shed some light about their experience, housing, etc??
PS. Dru I know about this sticky, but I posted a new thread hoping I will get more responses just like the Brooklyn thread that was prior to mine. Could you please allow it to be a a little longer in the general page before you move it? Thanks. |

on st. elizabeths
Mike,
Having completed my psych core at SEH, I have to tell you it was an awesome experience. A lot depends on where you get placed on the campus, but unfortunately that's not up to you. I heard the forensic unit was nice in terms of hours, but learning might be a little low yield. I was on Ward 5, which was terrific because the attending (1 of 2) rocked. Again, you don't have say as to which attending you're assigned. You will learn your psych from him if you're lucky enough to be on that team. As far as living, you don't want to live in Anacostia, which is the area were you'll be. Your advisor should have sent you a list of rooms/apt available. I lived with family in Virginia and commuted daily (about 30 min). Good luck. |

Mike-
Call up St. Mary's and ask the operator for Kathie Buker's phone number. She is in the department of surgery and she has a housing list. Housing is abundant and cheap in Waterbury. Good call going with rotations at St. Mary's. Medicine is a Yale program- your residents and interns will be Yale residents and you get great lectures. You will learn a ton. Surgery is GRUELING. Be prepared to get to the hospital at 4:45 AM every day to start working. But you do learn a lot. Good luck! |
