thanx alot...
Thanks alot for the info almd2b and ra2j. My wife and I have been looking on Craigslist.com, and there are alot of apartments on 2nd stories of houses. How is that working out for you ra2j? Is there a family or the owners living downstairs? Have you had any problems living in the same house? Once again, I really appreciate the info....

reply for DBob
DBob,
Yes, the owners of the 2 story house live downstairs and they are the best. They have been very easy to work with and the woman buys my todler son toys and chocolate bars almost every week. A little thing but it's those kind of caring things that have made it easier for us to be so far from family and frends. I'm sure not every landlord situation is this good but there are good ones our there. ra2J |

Family Practice Core Rotation at Larkin Hospital is great.
The Family Practice Core rotation at Larkin Community Hospital in Miami is the best rotation I have experienced.
The hospital also has affiliated clinics that serve the uninsured, over 15,000 people, so you can image the oportunities for learning. Dedicated group of attendings who love to teach and spend time with us. I also highly recommend following up with a Pulmonary elective with Dr. Manny Suarex, excellent training. |

although it will still be a while before i get to miami, i'd like to hear some opinions about housing there.
there are two main options that i see. 1. get an apt at a central location in miami, pay a couple hundred more, and maybe a car won't be necessary? 2. get an apt farther away, cheaper, and rent a car. Say, $500 for apt, and $500 for car.... as for option 1, can you even satisfy both conditions in the greater miami area? Say, pay $750 per month, and ride the bus? Is it efficient? convenient? Is a centrally located apt close to places to eat? Or would I need a car 99% of the time within a 20 mile radius of miami..... I was looking at the map here http://www.rossmiami.com/Student%20Resources-map.htm and it seems the ideal location is somewhere around NW 20th St near the I-195. Liberty Square seems like a good location too, but I wasn't able to find any rental properties on any rental websites. |

Re: Larkin
Actually, when I was in Miami serving as a TA, I heard very positive reports from people I knew and trusted. They really enjoyed their time there.
