Ross University Housing - WOW

There were some recent questions about the Ross Univrersity Housing. I was just browsing the new Ross Housing Website and found more information and pictures of the Ross University Housing (RUH). Here is the link for information on these student apartments:

http://survey.rossmed.edu.dm/student...&page_no=1

They appear much improved from when they were the Portsmout Beach Hotel (PBH) and come with the following:

Dual voltage, Water, Great Location (about as close to campus as one could get), Enclosed Setting and Campus Security, Swimming Pool (the only other apartment with a pool is Avies Ville), Daily Cleaning Service,
A/C, DSL INTERNET , Modem rental included, GENERATOR!! Refrigerator and Microwave. Optional VOIP Phone service $30US per month (includes free calling to US). I think I paid $25US just for local phone service. The cost is $395/month.

This options really takes the stress and anxiety off of new students. Its a great deal and very convenient. Student can then look off campus in future semesters once they are oriented to the area. These rooms may not be large enough for a family and they don't have a kitchen, but for a single student who doesn't plan on cooking a lot, it looks great.

By the way, here is the link to the new RUSM Housing Website for other housing options if it hasn't been posted here before:

http://survey.rossmed.edu.dm/student_resources/Housing/

The new RUH should create competition in the area and lower the local housing prices as well.

here a few more additional pieces of info

Af ew things you forgot to mention.

The back up generator is not even hooked up or close to function, why is that, or how do I know. Well, I live like 200 feet away fromt he generator and I can see it from my front door. That thing has been sitting on a trailor since jan. of this year. We had 3 power outtages, and where is the generator, not working and stitting on the towing-trailor.

The VOIP voice over IP serivce is okay. but if it rains, it's alsmost a gurantee that you VIOP and internet service will go down at least once that day. I know it's a different company that provides those services to ROSS, I just wanted to let everyone know the most up-to-date information.

the cleaning service here is great and it seems very safe, 24 security guard patroling

the A/C has an IR infrad red remote control, kinda fool looking. It looks like units from Japan and other Asian countries.

The whole housing complex is about a 20 second walk to the beach, great view, can hear the ocean at night.

more pictures

Mitchdc:

I think it would be great if the housing department would take pictures of the inside and outside of all of the apartments being offered on the site. This way it would make it easier for the 1st semester students to pick housing before they arrive on the island. The other possiblity is to include a small map show ing where each of the apartments are located and how far they are from a Ross entrance.

Re: more pictures

Singer, have you looked at the new housing site? The housing department has done just what you said (for many of the apartments). That is a huge task. What they have done is already WAY above and beyond what most housing offices do at any University. They have not only MANY photos of their own housing but many other units offered in the community. The map is a good idea. You should submit your suggestion to the housing office by e-mail.

Hey,

I am trying to look at the pics of RUH via the links MitchDC posted, but they don't work. If anyone knows what the new website is, or can post the link I would really appreciate it!!!

Thanks

the new RUH has been there for a few semesters

i stayed there last term. its not that great. the pictures represent about 5 units out of 50. the internet is not free and its certianly not fast

daily maid cleaning is an outright lie, its once a week (sometimes they do once every 2 weeks)

only advantage is the generator and the pool (which any student can use btw) along with the lounge (open to all ross students)

Yeah units are small and claptrap...the shower curtains are like tissue and suck in and stick to you...they just had a major sewage backup from all the showers in one of the buildings...people couldnt shower for a day or 2...Almost everyone I know that lives there now regrets it. There are many apartments here...no shortage...and it is worth it to wait and get oe upon arrival.
