    dress clothes

Someone mentioned that you have professional days where you (i assume) are in a hospital/clinical setting on dominica. Do you have this during the first and second semester? If so, how often and how do you dress for these days? How much professional clothes should you bring to the island. Thanks

    clothes

the only times youll need to dress up during the first 2 semesters is for the white coat ceremony in first, if you plan to run for any Student government position sometimes they have lunches with the deans and medical boards, and so on, and if you volunteer to go to a clinic, sometimes they want you to dress up. i would say at most bring 3 dressy outfits, no need for anymore than that until you get into 3rd

    1st Semester

In first semester you also need professional attire for the DPS Practical exam.

    practical exam?

DPS has a practical exam now????????

wow! It used to be such a nice course to listen to Dr. ? (forgot his name) and just sit back and relax for a change. He had a nice Scottish accent which is what I'd call "lovely". :-)

    Re: clothes

The welcome packet seems to have something about wearing dresses or skirts for the girls when they go into town. What's that about? And I do have to ask is the sexual harassment as bad as people say or is it more akin to what you might find on any city street?

    Dress clothes

KEY: ONLY BRING CLOTHES THAT ARE NON DRY CLEAN AND TUMBLE DRY SAFE. Go to Target or better yet walmart and get cheap crap that you would leave here, because you probably will after the mold and funk finishes them. Dominica has not yet perfected dry cleaning, much less keeping my clothes off their bodies(theft), or in your clean clothes out of my drawers (honest mix ups that they are too lazy to care to correct). This is not a dress up kinda of place, and I think the whole concept is ridiculous here.

    long or short?

Hey guys I was actually wondering if they care what kind of dress you wear for the white coat ceremony. Does it have to be long or short, black or any color? Sorry for asking a dumb question but wanted to make sure becuase I know the lab coat needs to be short cause that is what they want.

    Thanks.

    dress clothes

I was looking at the Ross album and there is a pic of the white coat ceremony. I looks like girls wear a black skirt or dress about knee lenth.

White Coat ceremony: dress up nicely, no specific colors necessary, wear fluorescent green if you wish, as long as it looks nice/professional.
A short coat is needed, because it symbolizes that you are a "student"...long coats are for docs/attendings.

Daily: shorts, t-shirts, flip-flops/sandals, running shoes...sweaters/long-sleeves because the classrooms can be cold (A/C)

Professional days: white shirt(short sleeves fine), black pants. Look professional. That's the main idea. You will need to look professional when you do your clinical rotations. Guys mainly wear ties and girls don't. :-)

    dress clothes

I read that crap about wearing nice clothes to Rosseau when you go. Let me just say that is crap. My wife and I dressed up in semi nice clothes to go to Rosseau when we first got here. The only thing it did was make use stick out to the public. We were the only people in the town who were not wearing shorts, rags, or just general swimming wear. I really felt stupid. We actually had a dominican come up to use and ask use were we were going that we needed to be wearing hot clothes?
