Do Ross employees hate the students that much???

Have the Ross employees been treated like crap from students for so long that they feel the need to go in "defense" mode even when the nice students approach them? Today I went to the financial aid office just to turn in a form and was nice and respectful, and the guy behind the desk first acts like I'm bothering him and then acts all rude like I did something wrong. Geez, I apologize if I interrupted him from doing nothing. If they hate their job so much, it's not like they have to work there. This is not just a one time incidence but happens all the time from the same person and from different employees around the campus.

Occasionally you'll meet the nice Dominican, but alot of them just give the rest of their people a bad name, just as how I guess a few bad students that have come through have given the current students a bad image as well. Glad I'm out of this place in 2 months.

put a dominican man behind a computer and that's what you'll get. You know they like that MSN Messenger. they chat all day with other dominican women.

Ditto Foxtrot. Despite the fact that this practice continues semester after semester, it appears that nobody is ever held accountable for their lack of work ethic and/or professionalism at Ross, however it does get a little bit better in Miami or maybe it’s just different…lol. Obviously this issue has never been a high priority on the administration’s agenda, although I do remember how the predecessor to the present executive dean emphasized customer service…yeah, I know, it still gets a laugh out of me too. It’s unfortunate, but I found out that being forcibly assertive, almost to the point of rudeness, often times worked, but why does it have to get to this point…hmmm

and it will never change.....

Couldn't resist replying to this one. All of you are correct. Unfortunately, Dominica has one of the worst infrastructures I've ever seen. The people here have been accelerated in their technonlogy without having any discipline beforehand. The Dominicans, in general, are lazy, rude and selfish. Their only sense of professionalism is a uniform. The Dom's feel that as long as they wear a uniform and follow the rules told to them, that's it. They are grossly uneducated and contrary to the condescending attitude some professors and students display...are not bright. The students who occassionaly say hi to the groundskeepers and thus feel they are culturally adapted...often never leave the confines of campus. If anyone spends anytime in this community, he or she will eventually see that these people have a terrible attitude and are obsessed with material goods and have no inclination to work for it. They feel we are fortunate to have their island here and that we should be grateful to them. They completely ignore the fact that Ross provides around 60% of the GDP here. I wish spouses were allowed to work in Ross adminitstrative areas. The library staff is atrocious. And I'm sure you all have noticed that the only time a Dominican is in a hurry is when they are behind the wheel. Why is it that they drive like maniacs, honk and show no patience whatsover, yet at any business they drag their feet, shuffle, roll their eyes, ect...Why? It's because they aren't able to stray from the childish adolescent behavior. They want colorful toys, they want to drive fast, and they want those things now! Unfortunately Ross has no choice because they must employ these incompetent people because of..........rules. So it's a shame. We as students will continue to pay inflated rental fees and deal with total incompetency. I've never understood why Ross won't use its power to prevent these landlords from inflating the prices. It's immoral and down right criminal that they are allowed to ask such ridiculous fees when the locals do not pay such a price. I know many locals who have come to my house and flat out say how I am paying way too much for it. AHHHHHHHHHH. Anyway, that felt good. Take care guys. I feel your pain.

Ross

i agree that things here are beyond horrible. i get harrassed by the same librarian in the library for stupid crap routinely. mind you she doesn't harass any other race except mine in that fashion. in any other place she would have been fired but here . i have nothing wrong with bickering, whining, venting etc. on the forum but keep it that. i personally get irritated when these threads become racist threads.
is it necessary to bring up hitler EVER?
how can you ever joke about Hitler?
is it necessary to compare an entire race to adolescent aka children?
please keep the racist jargon out of your posts?
like i said i have nothing wrong with the the bickering, whining, and generalized venting but keep your slanderous racist remarks out of these posts.

ps
not trying to be a moderator but i have been watching the forum forever

Re: and it will never change.....

I agree with you about the work ethics of the local employee are at best below what I consider is acceptable. For example, in the SGA lounge, I asked the lady behind the desk about checking out a ping pong ball. She told me that they had none. Then I asked her if they are going to get more, she just said no. I then asked her who I can ask about obtaining more ping pong balls, she said no. During the course of the conversation, she was so irrated because I was interrupting her MSN messenger session on her comuter. Another example, I know all of us have experienced the lack of services at the bank on campus. All the tellers are working so slowly and there are always 5-10 students waiting in line. I have timed ,y last visits to the bank ( I was there because the bloody ATM was not working), each time my average waiting time was 15-25 minutes. The experience is like watching a moviein slow motion, very painful.

My impression of the locals are that they just don;t care about anything. They just do the minimum to get by and an oz more of work. The ONLY time I see the employees doing their jobs timely is when it's time to get off work, they turn off those lights in the libary so fast that you almost had to leave in the dark.

There is just a lack of drive to perform well in anything on this island. If all of us are like the the local here, the human race would have stop progressing a long time ago.

Re: and it will never change.....

Hey ob,

Well..if you were responding to my post....I believe you don't understand certain terms. "Race" is something you can usually determine by phenotype...caucasion, black, for example...Nationality refers to a persons country of origen...American, Nigerian for example. My post is in reference to Dominicans. I made no remarks concerning race. You should educate yourself a little more before replying to something you obviously don't understand. Dominicans have an unusual setting in that it is a third world country that has made advances rather quickly and not because of their own doing. They are lazy and selfish. And by that, I mean Dominicans. Understand?

dominican workers

one thing that nobody here seems to realise is that Ross employees are bound by dominican labor laws. they have a sweet deal. after 3 months on the job, you practically need a court order to fire them. they work hard for three months, and then they are set for life. the only way a dominican can be fired after 3 months is after being bought up in fornt of a govt review board, whihc, as in any govt, is a long and lengthy and pain in the butt process. the only other way is if the company goes out of business. so they are all basically like any US govt employee, who have basically the same deal. ask anyone who ever had to deal with immigration, IRS, etc, and they will tell you, its a job for life. anything short of shooting the boss wont get you fired. it is a system meant to protect workers form arbitrary firings, but is heavily taken advantage of as an excuse to slack.
