heheh. dominicans have their own priorities. they don't have as much going for them as americans in general.
when i walked past the front gate today, i saw one of the administration staff pimping a female security guard. |

I read a post on ValueMD before I came to Ross to research the school and came across a thread similar to this one. However, the OP was a Dominican and was saying how the Dominicans aren't as nice to the students because of the way the students in the past have treated them. I was empathetic to the argument and thought that Ross students must be very arrogant to the local populace for them to treat the students as they do.
However, after going through 3 semesters here at Ross, I am appalled by the attitude of the local populace. Even when I am kind, courteous, and polite, the local populace still treats me bad. Asking for a bag to get the food to go, or for a napkin is met by an evil eye or an eye roll. I've had a friend who was ridiculed by the head guy at the gym - my friend walked in and the head guy asked if he had a towel otherwise my friend would have to leave. My friend shows him his towel, the guy laughs and then holds it up for the entire room to see that its too small to be a towel. Talk about a power trip. The same with a friend who went to Subway. He asked one time for a few extra slices of olives and the guys rudely looks him in the eyes and says no. Not even a sorry, I can't do that or you'll have to pay extra - just flat out denied the guy. The worst is how Dominicans won't even respect you as a person and cut in front of you in line. Like they are somehow better than you. I've had the head of Security cut in front of me in line. Right in front of me. Didn't say excuse me or anything. Goes to show when the main guy who is supposed to enforce the rules is breaking the rules himself... The drivers here are ridiculous. I've had numerous occasions where the driver will be going 35 - 45 mph on a very narrow road and come within seconds of hitting me. I don't think this has to do with race so much as nationality. Many Africans I know who just came from Africa are some of the hardest working, humble, and intelligent people I have met. I think Dominica is a country that has the worst of both worlds. Neither abundant natural resources nor a good work ethic. I can imagine their angst seeing as how they have spent their ENTIRE lives on a place where the electricity goes out, where some places don't have good sewage systems, or where the education system is basically poor. Their government is corrupt and its reflected by their population. All you can do is minimize contact with them as much as possible. Last edited by Sideswipe; 01-23-2008 at 09:29 PM. |
