I am coming down to Dominica to join my wife in her adventure into the medical field. Is there any thing for the spouses to do. Or is as lame as all these people on this forum make it sound??

If you have the money there is lots of exploring you can do on the island. One of the things that the spouses/sig.others without children do alot of is scuba dive. You can become a dive master in Dominica for much less than in the states. If you're into the great outdoors there will be endless exploration. For the most part however, as you put it, and in my opinion, Dominica can be pretty lame.
i agree. if you arent a scuba diver, things in dominica stink. but being in the region, you can get cheap tickets to neighboring, better islands. so, after enduring dominica with your spouse, you can take a cheap vacation to a neighboring island.Originally Posted by NaggingWife
You should try visiting St. Lucia, looks a lot like Dominica, but much more advanced (and tourist friendly). The food there is great, they have a great pizza shop in the capital.

My wife said that they (movie producers) are planning to start filming the second pirates of the carribean. Do you think that they will be willing to take extra's, or just the locals?

Hi there!!!
If the entertainment options are your only obstacle, you should definitely come with your wife. If it is about activity, there are plenty of things to do on Dom, and there are lots of people (guys and girls) in your situation. I have posted about the Spouses Organization and we would love to see you join us. Some of us have cars and we have lots of fun things to do. ISland hopping is one of the best advantages of living in the caribbean. My husband is going to be in 3rd sem. and I am acutally getting sad that the time is running short. Ya, its tuff and its a culture shock, but it will thicken your blood, Dom is very beautiful when you consider the nature. Many of the students dont ever get time to see the island, so it is hard for many people to understand, but those with spouses who join in the club activities are better off because they have more fun. Come to Dom with an open mind, join our group and live an experience of a lifetime. When are you ever going to live in the Carribbean again? Its an adventure!! And hey -- dont believe everything you read on this forum, keep an open mind. Are you coming for sure?
Have you found housing?

as mentioned above, its much cheaper to get teh divemaster certification on the rock. and one thing, when you pay for the DM class, you get all the classes to get taht advanced, but the other plus is that, though you have to help out on thedives, you basically get unlimited diving for that one price. I did over 200 dives as a student at ross, man, if i had nothing else to do, i would have topped 1000 easily!!! now thats what I call a slacker lifestyle! and when back in the states, you then can geta job at a dive shop, helping out with classes and getting paid to have fun!
