once a liar... always a liar
Just to share this PM I received from our class rep:
"You know you should get facts straight before you speak. It really makes you look like a fool... I am not off island this week (10/19) I came down with a flu or something throwing up and what not on Thursday morning.. I attended classes on thursday morning until 11 and then I went home.. I have been in bed ever since and I hope to return to classes on Monday... If I am throwing up still I will not return on Monday but we will see how I feel. I will be taking two weeks (actually a little less than two weeks) in November.. I leave on the 15th and return on the 24th... this is tentative according to when my wife goes into labor.. I certainly hope you are faced someday with a situation where you would be separated from your first born's birthday! You seem to have no honor, making comments like you do! I wish people like you would grow a set and say how you feel to me directly... you know who I am but I do not know who you are... Besides you should mind your own buisness, study and work on passing your classes. I will do that for me.. and we will see who fails the semester.. I rocked mini 1 by the way so my failing is unlikley (besides I study very hard as well as taqke care of the SGA class rep duties)... If you have any further gripe I suggest you talk to me in person on Monday... If not please this is not appropriate to post things of a personal matter on the internet... " This shows his poor character and disgust. Not only are you manipulating the system by sneaking out, cheating and kissing butt, now you're telling everyone you were sick, when clearly you were not here. And if you ask how I know, lets just say I know... cause EVERYONE knows. Are you dilusional? There are only a 1000 of us here... plus the locals talk and one of them took you to the airport. So quit while you are ahead. Save yourself the embaressment!!! As per criminal discrimination: why does the school ask for a police record before admission. Does that mean we have criminals amongst us? Does that mean our conduct in the community mean nothing to our profession as physicians? Does that mean we can steal, cheat, rape and kill but still be doctors because Ross turns the other cheek? (God know no other school does - in the US or any other country). Ross preaches to us about being guests in Dominica. Does it also preach about stealing from our host? I don't think offensors should be expelled, but there should be some form of punishment, perhaps a "semester off rule" so these ppl can reflect on their actions. |

feel better
Rrr_md:
Hope you will feel better soon. Don't understand why they don't offer flu vacinnes especially to 4th semester students who go to the hospital. As far as criminal records i am not so sure that Dominica would want to allow someone into the country who was a criminal. I am sure most countries have similar restrictions. In the US many jobs require background checks. On my job I actually had FBI interview my neighbors and relatives. Hope this info helps.

Ethics and Professionalism earned at last.
This forum is a direct reflection of the struggle all of us go through in order to become physicians. From the excited, enthusiastic new comers to the sour, bitter 2nd or third semester students. Its a sine graph which has its highs and lows. Luckily....no matter how negative one may be while on the island......majority of the people now in miami or at clinicals have valued their time and training at Ross. As a result, we discover that Ross grooms us from raw narrow minded people to more emotionally stable professionals. The sooner you realize this....more peaceful the transition.
Good luck to all...its a struggle...no doubt...just hang in there.

Sounds like you haven't even stepped foot on the island yet. :P

Really??
Jujubean,
Perhaps I haven't stepped on the island as a STUDENT yet. But I am well aware. My parents are from a thrid world country and I have made many trips back with them. In addition I have visited medical schools in Poland and Ukraine. They are no where close in comparison to Ross. Perhaps its my vast exposure that enables me to understand things differently. And one more thing. I understand that Ross has many problems....but who am I to complain....because it is the same school that gave me the OPPORTUNITY to become a physician. I feel sorry for those who thought Ross was going to like any other US MED SCHOOL. And neither is Portsmouth your favorite vacation spot. Its an international school...in a system and environment of its own. So although I have not started yet....I can assure you that I am not living in any dream bubble either. I'm an optimist. I may not always get the very best but I make the best of what I get.

I wouldn't waste my time worrying about the immature, unprofessional, primadonas at the school. IF they make it to rotations they will be in for quite a rude awakening. MD's and medical professional's will not tolerate their behaviour for a minute and I'm guessing they will be put in their place very quickly. They will have to adjust, or they WILL be dismissed.

while it pains me to see that image of us being reflected out there (i definately have pride being Indian), a lot of it is actually true. I grew up in a predominantly Indian area of Toronto, where all my friends where Indian and was constantly surrounded by Indian people at social events. I went away for University to a predominantly caucasian school, where most of my friends where white, and noticed quite a huge difference in the way people behave. When going to bars and clubs in university, if there was ever a fight, everyone automatically assumed it was the "brown guys"...and they were usually right.
It's also true that Indians gossip and do not look out for others interests. Hopefully though this incident at James store was an isolated one and not indicitive of the indian population at Ross. |

It gives me great displeasure to see indians out there giving such a bad name to all of us, however, as a fellow Indian I feel that describing ALL indians in such a light is NOT a fair and honest portrayal...comments such as "indians are dishonest, indians only care about their own family" are highly offensive to me...I think they border on racism and prejudice..clearly those people who are describing ALL indians have probably never been to India, and only know about it based on what they hear from their Indian relatives...for those of you who are not Indian please disregard the comments made previously from those people who seem to know very little about other cultures(albeit their own) although they CLAIM to...There are in fact many indian that will go out of their way to help you when other's coudlnt' be bothered, there are indians who are extremely honest and would never cheat or steal its absolutely ridiculous to even THINK that indian parents would say "its okay to cheat and steal as long as your grades are good"...what kind of nonsense is this!? My parents have always first and foremost been concerned with my building a good character and only then my academics, as being a good person takes you further...at any rate, I am offended by both parties in this discussion
