Wow!

Based on what I have heard, I agree. Then again, you never know if that's all heresay from bitter students!!! The general consensus seems to be that Ross is declining - is that really true? Some students from Ross on the AUA forum seem to not mind it at all...

ZZZZZZZ & ecsmd2b

Sincerely hope you two decide against Ross. There will be two less sniveling whiners on the Rock and open two spots for students that appreciate an outstanding opportunity to fullfill their dreams of becoming physcians.

nada

Yea, he should be replaced. Then again, so should 90% of the faculty. I've taken a Kaplan review course, and their faculty is what Ross needs. Too bad you just can't take Kaplan and sit for the Step.

wheer are all the students going

Since it is claimed that Ross students are leaving. Are they not cchallenged enough? Are they applying in mass and being accepted to all the top US medical schools?
Of course not. These are the fringe students who thought going to Ross would be an easy opportunity to become a doctor. They probably failed out or had to repeat a semester and realized they wouldn't be able to pass. Let them all go to AUA and practice medicine in India.
Students always comeplain about teachers and administrtion just like workers in corporate America complain about their bosses and admiistrators. Just the way of the world. No different at ROss.

hmm....

the course material hasn't changed...
A lot of senior professors are still teaching....
good students are passing....

it seems like the students who can't cut it are the ones complaining about the dean's policies.

What part of the dean's policies do ya'll have a gripe about? The higher mps's? The fail-one-fail-all rule? If it's the latter, get help.

Ross is #1......... for man's best friendin

Student who's done well, and still disagrees

Just the school's general INCONSISTENCY. If you are going to implement rules, they should be applied to all students; not on a case by case basis. i.e. Student A fails, has his/her orthopedic surgeon brother write an excuse saying the student has a joint problem which prevented the student from attending class, and ends up passing.

Student B ends up failing micro by 1 point, and takes Micro and BMSI togther.

Student C fails anatomy by 1 point, and takes all of 2nd semester over.

Student D becomes ill the 3 days before the final mini, and can not be excused because of the student's borderline status in one class going into the final. Student D gives it a shot, but passes out during the mini and doesn't get to finish the exam. Student D is assured that he/she is allowed to come back the following semester and repeat the semester with no penalty, or record of the past semester. Student D then receives an e-mail saying you have been requested for dismissal. Student fights this, is allowed back in, but is considered to have failed the previous semester.

Student E is American, has been class president and is involved with SGA, barely gets by but would like to do 5th semester on the island. Student F, is Canadian, a 4.0 student, can't receive government loans, and comes from a family strapped for cash, but would also like to do 5th semester on the island because miami is too expensive. Generally, students with the highest gpa's are allowed to do 5th on the island, but in this case, due to only one more spot being available, Student E was granted the spot because of the student's rapport with the faculty.

These are all relatively recent, TRUE stories, and don't even scratch the surface of what goes on administratively at RUSM. When one teacher was asked why a high number of people recently failed, and that there must be a glitch in the computer, that teacher simply responded "the glitch is over there" (pointing to the Dean's office).

Enough said!

waaaaa

wolfie has it right. I would like to say that Ross is the home of the whiners, but i hear my US studenst whining about all the same crap here too. maybe if they spend less time feeling sorry for themselves and mroe time studying, they wouldnt have it so bad.

out on a limb

I am going to go against the grain here. Now, some things he has done, I don't really agree with. However, I like his over-all mission: to raise the standards at this school. I mean, we have it tough enough coming from a foreign medical school. It only makes it worse that the standards are so low. It is really funny to me that you can get a 50% on a test and still pass it with a C. I am embarassed about that when States people ask me about it. Either way, my grades aren't effected by it, like most people who do fairly well. But I still have the stigma of going to a "half-way school." I wish my class had the higher minimum MPS of 55 like the incoming May class has. Thats at least closer to respectable. I think he should go all the way, and make MPS 70...but the whine coming from the island would be loud enough to deafen all of the Carribean. Don't believe me? Just read the responses below to see all the babies that are afraid of real expectations.
