I bought that line of reasoning until yesterday
Jess, I truly belived what you said for 4 semesters here. Everyone I knew that failed always had an excuse (with the rare few) that there was some sort of conspiracy going on. From the day I arrived on this island, that was all I heard. I dont know if you were at the 4th sem. meeting yesterday, there were people from all semesters there, but the person speaking (I got warned for using peoples names on here before, so if you want to know who it was, just ask around) told us all straight up that there IS a limit that can be taken in Miami. The number was REAL high, dont get me wrong, but I sat in the same meetings my previous semesters just to get a heads up, and the person who usually gives the speech would flat out deny that there were any caps at all. In fact last semester he said they can handle as many people as the school churns out. There were also quite a few "rumors" that were confirmed at the meeting, that due to time constraints (path, pharm and ICM work) I am not going to get into here, I am positive you will hear them all. But just remember, that yes, most people do fail themselves, but now I would take your staement with a grai of salt, ESPECIALLY with the sheer size of this incoming 1st sem class and the numbers that are going to be failing in the coming months. If you werent at that meeting, the next one that comes up, just sit in on and see/hear for yourself firsthand. And anyone who was there, I hope you agree that the girl in front that was asking the hard questions should get a pat on the back. Talk about guts. She went up a few notches in my book, and I dont even really know her.

Ross will not fail you due to seats
the first semester to do miami was a "pilot program" with only 25 students. my classwas the first full class. we showed up with almost a couple hundred. the people in Miami had no clue we were coming in such numbers. they had no rpoblems at all changing thinsg around and getting us organised to handle every one of us. do you think they are now accepting more studenst per class,a nd not planning ahead for them in miami? when the Miami program started, it was kinda sudden thing, and thats why thinsg were a bit of a surprise. they came into classroom 1 one day, and talekd to everyone. the end of the smester was in about 3 weeks. they said that at that point, the top 25 in the entering 5th semester class was going to miami. people were actually pissed, as they had return tickets that they lost out on. theer were people in my class who already had tickets for returning to the rock for 5th also. since then, Ross has been a fiixture inMiami. I highly doubt that they will be surprised by any changes in class size anymore. Not to mention DR F reads this forum, and knows whta you guys are saying are the class sizes, even before he gets told by the rest of Ross administartion.

learn the material == pass the course
I don't think Ross is arbitrarily failing students. The most likely reason that more students failed last semester is that the MPS was raised. This raised the standards required to pass and therefore those students who were on the borderline and might have passed in previous semesters failed this time around.
Myself and most of the people I know passed from first to second. It's not because we were the lucky ones who dodged the administrative scalpel. It's because we studied, learned the material, and did well on the minis. Simple as that. The people I know who failed did poorly on the minis, and subsequently failed the semester. Maybe they didn't put in the study time or were just unable to master the material. Either way they failed only because they were unable to correctly answer enough questions on the exams. You may run across the rare case like the missed bubble, but that's the exception to the rule. Double check all your bubbles! Now the bathrooms...that's another story. |

correction
Zambie,
I thought she said that the number of students that they are prepared to accomodate in Miami is based upon their preparation, which in turn is based on the number of students currently in the program. Also, she said 290. I'd like to see the day when we even get close to that, but it seems good enough for now. And based on what she said, if that day ever does come, it makes sense that they would prepare themselves to accomodate more...based on what I heard... |

5th SEMESTER #'s
I have said what I know already but if you have questions out the 5th Semester talk to Dr. Ferndez he runs the 5th Semster in Miami ... Dr. Clutter will be able to give you some info just because he is down there but Ferndez is the main contact. I don't know what he will tell you as far as the exact #'s but it should be around 150 ... BUT THERE IS NO WAY ... I REPEAT NO WAY THAT 280 PEOPLE ARE IN 5TH OR CAN BE (at the be present time) THAT IS JUST A COMPLETE LIE ASK HIM!!!

Limited number of 5th semester students is another classic Ross rumor
I completed the 5th semester session in Miami this past March 19th. Our initial clinical assignment listed 296 students, including 70 or so from BMSI. Some students took the semester off and this list was scaled down to 276 at the end of 5th semester. Based on what Dr. ********* said and what I saw, they can accomodate many more students should this becomes necessary.

hey there
I'm in miami right now,
we had our first large group meeting in the aschoff auditorium which holds more than 200 students, they weren't expecting the number we are now which is a little over 170 our class number went down but, we have plenty of space in miami I do think Ross purposely failed everyone else.. I honestly don't know but the miami program expected more people, we have definetly more people that could have been in our 5th semester, In the past , the miami program has had over 280 people so Right now , there is so many available spots that the miami program has offered extra time in rotations since there will be a lot of slots available so you can do your special rotation here in miami while waiting for your step 1 score I'm not one that spreads rumors, I jus tell it like it is, fact bye
