Follow me as I try to schedule surgery/pediatric cores at Ross

    Hello,

I am a new 7th semester student at Ross, having turned so yesterday, and am currently in my third core rotation, with my fourth core rotation scheduled. When my first four cores were scheduled, I was told that when I became a seventh semester student I would be able to schedule the remaining two rotations, surgery and pediatrics.

I called the clinical call center today and the woman on the phone laughed so hard she almost dropped the phone. I was told that it would be weeks before I would be able to schedule the cores, but if I didn't want any down time I should schedule my electives and worry about the cores later.

In part from an Ask Ross reply: "We are aware that you recently turned 7th semester ; however, as previously stated you will be contacted shortly to schedule your missing cores."

I will update as I get more information, or weekly. I post this because I think many Ross students have some question as to availability of surgery and pediatric rotations. This string will not prove or disprove a shortage of clinical spots, but it will reflect my real time scheduling timeline.

What Tipton is saying is just be smart how much info you give out. There are school admins who come by this site, not necesarilly to look for trouble makers but to see what people are saying about the school. If you post emails that are labeled confidential at the bottom by the school and they find out who you are they could bring you before the Honor Council or Ombudsman for unprofessional conduct. This is why you should not really quote these exchanges but more paraphrase, also try to maybe space out the days or something so they can't know "oh we just sent a kid that same email this morning". Just be smart, there is no reason to not continue to post.

Really not my intention to limit your posts here but the type of posts you make. Since this thread seems to me to be a public attempt to shame Ross with some problem in their clinical department, it would behoove you to be very careful how you proceed.

They are booked for family medicine as of last week. Now I'm told that Ross is unable to schedule any cores at the moment. I don't know what's going on here, but I wish they would be a little less vague with their answers.

I hear its because they're about to unleash an arsenal of clinical centers and new electives....doubt it though.

They just released all the details about the tracks for fall. My guess is that they're not scheduling cores until they can figure out who is going on a track vs. who will be off track.

Not to hijack the thread but has anyone had trouble booking IM electives? Oncology, Rheumatology, or medicine sub-I's in particular.

I guess I had a better experience with scheduling my last two cores. The day after I turned 7th, my clinical advisor actually emailed me to call her and set up my cores. I was pleasantly surprised.

Being as you are on your own for the most part with electives if they are it's not Ross' fault. We have a FEW affiliations but for the most part it's up to you to find your own electives. Prince George in DC has a bunch of those though and an IM residency.

Are scheduling rotations always such a hassle?
