    Step Score Reporting

I took the Step a few weeks ago, and got the scores back this morning. I know that the 2-digit score is not really used anymore, and is just for some medical boards, and as such is included with the 3-digit score. The odd thing is that I have always seen people report their 3 and 2 digit scores as XXX/XX. While they are scaled a little differently, I thought they we both a scaled score based on the curve of the averages, and have usually seen 3 digit scores above 235ish reported with a 2 digit of 99. I scored a 255 / 88, which just seemed a little different than what I have seen before. Like I said, I know that the 2-digit is not really used, but just curious how it is so different from what I have read about.

Congrats on your score. It's not that the 2-digit "isn't really used" - they are no longer reported when applying for residency. They are not used in screening out potential applicants. PDs don't care. They never have. Don't worry about it. Your 255 will shine through.

that however has got to be a misprint...while there are SLIGHT changes (one yr a 230 is a 97, the next year it could be a 99) a 255 is usually in the 99 range...out of curiosity, what was the mean an std dev for your test?

Next to the 3 digit score it states approx mean and sd are 222 and 24, respectively, that a 188 is passing and the SEM is 6 pts.

By the 2 digit score: 75 is passing, equil to about a 188, with an SEM of 1 pt.

    If there is a mis-print, I hope it's the 88 and not the 255.

Nope, not a misprint. The 2-digit scoring was totally revamped like 6 months back. It's why it's obsolete now.
