Failed 1 Block by 1 percent. Can I appeal?

We got our grades back yesterday and I failed the first block by 1%!!! The reason why I failed the first block is because I tanked the Mini 1 Part 1. I did horrible on the first exam and I think it was a combination of things that made me do so bad on the first exam. I could not find a right study schedule the right study habits the right study spot and I was home sick since it was the first time i was ever away from my family and to add to that there was some family issues of family members being sick. However, after the first exam I got into a groove and every exam after my first exam I have steadily improved. So do you think I have a chance of going in front of the promotions committee and seeing if I can present my case and if they will let me pass to second semester? has anyone been through the appeals process for anything and can give me some details. I emailed Dr. L already to see if I can appeal I am waiting to hear back but I want to know if any of you have any advice.

I've known people who've failed MPS by 1 pt or 1% in the new system and there appeals have been denied. But I know there are exceptions out there so it can't hurt to appeal but the odds are against you. Good luck.

I got an email saying no appeals but i am going to keep fighting. I know there are exceptions to every rule. So i am going to keep asking to be seen in front of the committee. If they want to rip me apart in the meeting and hold a grudge against me for wanting a meeting then so be it but i am going to keep trying and if all else fails at least i tried.

PS. I would still appreciate advice from anyone that has gone through the appeals process for any reason and what it is like and what I should be prepared for. Thanks.

Not sure if this would help, but are there any points that you had from mini 1 (either exam) - that got dropped that would have helped you out?

Would that 1 or 2 points boost you up a % and make you pass?

Yeah i think there was one question that might help and yeah it could make the difference but they are saying that I can not talk to anyone on the committee.

I am going to say that 99.9% chance of no appeal. Ross doesn't care. You will have to show up next semester and attend their meetings to help you focus and move on. If you don't want to do that, drop out and move on with life. I found the repeater groups pretty useless but do what you want to.

I've never heard of anyone not being allowed to go before the committee, this must be new. If they continue to say no than either move on and repeat or leave. Sadly that's the only two options they are giving you but you have to decide what's it worth to you.

I'll be frank with the OP. If you were that close to failing, one point or not, it shows that your grasp of the knowledge is not sufficient to pass you on to the next block. In all reality, you really need to repeat. Thus I wouldn't be surprised if Ross doesn't appeal your score. I can't imagine of why they might consider appealing it other than a documented medical illness during or right before the exam. Best of luck

Yes. I am going to repeat. I just wanted to try and give it a shot if i could talk to the committee being so close on one block is the worst part and having to repeat an entire semester over one block is what hurts the most all my other blocks i passed well above mps by 8% or more. It was just this one block that bit me in the butt.
DEQNY85, failing a test does not really say much about grasp of the knowledge. It is used to standardize your knowledge and compare that to the rest of your peers. Some people might have all the knowledge but just suck at test taking. And there could not be that big of a difference between me and some one who got 1 or 2 more questions right by a lucky guess and hit the MPS passed where as i got unlucky and did not pass. To certain extent you are right that failing might mean i dont have a grasp of the material but that is not 100% accurate.

I've heard the bad test taker excuse countless times. I'm telling you right now its going to get you nowhere and dig you a bigger a hole. It's like cartman saying he's bigboned. I know some people have more difficulty than others on a timed exam thats multiple choice (I've been through it) but if you have grasped the knowledge you should have no trouble getting MPS. What you will have trouble is bringing your B status to A status. Study hard and effectively. Best of luck.
