Thread: 3rd semester shelf and final grades

Just out of curiosity the 3rd semester grades didn't indicate the mark on the Behavorial Shelf or on the subject finals. Is this now happening for all semesters. Thought seeing the marks on the shelf exam helped to give an indication how you would do on that section of the USMLE so you could concentrate on your weak areas.

4th semesters also did not get their shelf grades. Not only do you not know what questions you missed on the minis and how you did on your mini, NOW you dont know how you did on your shelf. It doesn't make any sense...you are taking exams and do not even know how you did!

With our grades, it said to contact the exam center for individual final exam grades and shelf exam scores.

How do you contact the exam center? Does anyone has phone# or email?

I went to the dept. head for pharm beacause I took that shelf and he told me the mean was 60.0%. just thought I'd mention it for those who found out their scores.

Ouch, 60 seems awfully low. The path mean was a 64 or 65. As a quick reminder the shelf scores are NOT percentages. They are a scaled score which means that the score you get is in relation to how other people have done. The national mean is a 70 with a Standard deviation of 8. So if you scored a 78 that puts you in the 84th percentile. Conversely if you score a 62 that puts you in the 15th percentile. I didn't bother to calculate it out but a 60 should put your roughly in the 10th percentile. Hope it went well for everyone and i would really encourage you to get your scores from the exam center as it lets your compare yourself to your US counterparts.

p.s. shelf scores don't tell you how many questions you got right or wrong in an absolute sense. It only tells you how many more or less you got right in comparison to other people.

The pharm dept. head told me that path had the highest mean, but didn't share what it was.

Can you email the exam center for your grades? If so, what is the email? Or do you have to call them? Does anyone have the phone number?

Has anyone gotten an A in 3rd semester micro1 ?

I and a few other people others who had an A average going in
have all gotten ** for the final grade.
Not even a B+

What was the MPS ?

I got an A 3rd semester micro and know someone else who also did. I am not sure what the MPS is since i do not know what i got on the final.
